Mourinho dealing with more than Zagreb loss as Tottenham start looking for replacement

By Bruce Grove -

When Spurs made Jose Mourinho their latest manager in 2019, everyone thought they had pulled off a masterstroke.

The Special One had enjoyed success in every team he had managed and no one expected Tottenham to be an exception.

Their elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Dynamo Zagreb on Thursday means they are in serious danger of missing out on European football next season.

If that happens, it could cost Mourinho his job, according to Mail Sport.

One reason Spurs ditched fan favourite, Mauricio Pochettino, for the Portuguese boss was that they felt their team was ripe to win trophies after nearly winning the 2019 Champions League.

They are also facing serious financial losses because of the coronavirus pandemic.

An absence from Europe’s elite competitions will cost them even more money.

The report says that Mourinho is also dealing with disharmony in the dressing room ahead of their next game.

The club has already begun searching for a replacement for him and RB Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann remains the best candidate to fill in that position.

The German has won no major trophy in his career, but some Spurs fans would rather enjoy exciting attacking football than Mourinho’s current smash and grab style, especially as it isn’t bringing in success as expected.

It seems quite simple now for Mourinho if this report in the Mail is taken at face value, qualify for Europe or its bye bye.

He’s not that savvy, he’s been through 11 managers in his time and they’ve all failed, ask yourselves why? CORRECT, Levy doesn’t invest in the squad, we have to sell our best players to fund squad rebuilds, that’s crazy, we should keep the best and sell the rest.

It’s not Mourinho that should be leaving the club, it’s Levy, Lewis and ENIC. We’ve had 20 years of them and Levy has been through 11 managers or so, some of them top class managers but the same fate has come to them all. The one common denominator in the failure at the club is ENIC and the way Levy runs the club. We have a billionaire owner who has never made money available for transfers in all the time they’ve been in control. If Levy carries on running the club this way we’ll not see success at Spurs no matter what manager you bring in. Mourinho has had success everywhere he’s been, not getting it at Spurs should tell all Spurs fans all they need to know. The fans need to oust ENIC and hope we are taken over by someone who is prepared to invest in the squad for once. If not, don’t think anything will change in the near future, hands up who wants another 20 years of ENIC?

But if we sack Mourinho, we will still need to spend £200 million on replacement players. This lot wouldn’t cut it even if we had Pep with Klopp as his assistant.

If I can recall Harry already posted a blog as to why Alli was not sold to PSG…..Levy wanted 80 million, which is far from the 30 million offered. Even at 30 million PSG might think again.

Unless We at least secure Europa league football & the cup then I think Levy will fire him…, as has been mentioned on other threads much cheaper to spend 30 mill in compensation than 150-200 on a squad rebuild. In any event you have to wonder what our scouts are doing, and why Alli wasnt sold to PSG, if they were prepared to pay 30 million…

Maybe Levy is trying to impersonate Abramovich… if, assuming Mourinho departs end April… total compensation between Poch & Him along with backroom staff etc you would be looking at circa 45-50 million… that’s a lot of money for a savvy? business man to part with due to decisions they’ve made.
