Questions need to be asked about José Mourinho’s pre-season preparations after yesterday’s debacle against Everton. Previously the Portuguese described the overload of both Premier League and Champions League games this month as ‘not human’. Which is now even more of a concern, given the further admission in last night’s presser, that his side lacked the intensity and the physical conditions.
We’ll drill down into the numbers of individual players across the day, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the groundsman at Tottenham turned the sprinklers off for 24hours, given the amount of sweat our boys generated on Sunday.
Cluelessness is something that becomes even less palatable when combined with lack of match fitness. The manner in which the boys played was so bad, so lacking in confidence, it took me back to the Champions League final, against Liverpool…
Mourinho may not care about what the Spurs fans think of him, in respect of the style of football we play. That’s fine. However, he will make life easier for himself and everyone else if the team are physically fit. Yesterday we managed to make Everton look like Real Madrid in their pomp.
I’m just waiting to pass judgement but yes, he’s got his work cut out. Times have changed, can he change?
Not at the bitter end they didn’t…it was time to part ways.
What evidence to you have that levy ain’t gonna spend money at the n€w lan€? He did pre covid and will post covid. You’re still at the old lane.
It wasn’t poch directly
Poch is like Bielsa, ruthless and 110% commitment required from the players. Otherwise they might as well f*ck off…
There wasn’t any harmony there. I’m telling you. You don’t have to believe it. They HAD to go.
To who? Someone who didn’t get picked? Didn’t like the training? And you’re surprised by that?

Real talk. It was a thing.

Scared of what? Training or the firing squad? 😂

Toxic and clique’y? I see… Got us up the league though didn’t they. Best to get rid of the clique though, the players that weren’t selected didn’t like it!
Give me strength… 😂

Bully’s apparently. Many didn’t like them.

Says who? Some second rate players who couldn’t handle the training regime?
Says who? Some second rate players who couldn’t handle the training regime?
What, because they didn’t train hard enough, couldn’t handle the pace? Poch is like , it full on high intensity, no pussy (cats) allowed…
100% correct. Levy is a waste of space.
All of that is true but that was then and this is now.
He doesn’t have the budget and the money is more spread about the league, you can’t bully your way through it anymore. You need an on the front foot mentality, like Poch had and as Pep and Klopp have too, only with bigger budgets.
All great managers have their time (Jose’s winning record was phenomenal) when they’re cutting edge. Wenger had his, Capello, Van Gaal etc but things evolve and leave those ideas behind….
You become superseded, that’s life unfortunately. Why would only Jose be immune to this unavoidable truth?
Then I’ll have his back for the next six months. I’ll have the next manager of my clubs back too. If he loses the dressing room and we’re down to 14th I’ll be wanting his head. Its how I support my club.
Might only six months at this rate…
Well I’m gonna stand by him (the manager of my club) for the next 18 months then. You can carry on hating
Probably, because nothing will improve with that con man at the helm. Jose? I doubt he’s gonna last another 18 months…
I don’t care what nonsense you come out with. I’ve got my clubs back fully. Its the only way I know how to support my club. I don’t pick and chose bits and put her down. I’ll leave that to your sort. They both ain’t fkin off any time soon so luckily for you you’ll have loads of time to hate on my club. I can see levy owning 51% of Tottenham for a very long time. What you gonna do? Will you Still be screaming LEVY OUT when you’re sitting in your own p!$$ dribbling?
He’s such a terrible actor, not just on the telly, for the last 20 odd years. Acting as if he wants to win big and delivering nothing, despite the best efforts of 10 managers under his pathetic budget…
Too true. None of us want Spurs to be in this situation, but we saw it happening day by day over the last few years. Levy got lucky with Poch and if he had an iota of footballing knowledge, he would have done everything in his power to give him what he needed. Instead, he has replaced Poch with Jose and the same problems exist. The players are not good enough and making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear is not Jose forte. We need quality players, but they cost money that our residing charlatan isn’t prepared to pay out for.
Nah, Poch got em playing. Has-been Jose doesn’t know where to start without 250m to spend…
This isn’t Levy or Jose FC. If they’re not good enough they both need to f**k off and leave this great club to people who have the passion and ambition to get it to the top. Burnley’s 3rd choice keeper is however, an inspired signing I take it? 😂
Mentally knackered 25 year old professional athletes who were in a European Final recently? It’s all Poch’s fault… it’s been six months, what you gonna say in a year? 😂
levy won’t give him endless transfer windows or the money. He’s got to use mainly what he already has. Poch had to….
Yes I do still think next season we’ll see Tottenham start to shine. (3 Jose windows) when he manages to change the team. I said it before “very few of the players who played under poch will be here when the glory begins. Jose is still young as a manager. Ask sir alex. ILL NEVER LOSE FAITH IN MY TEAM. I’ll leave that to the weak.
They ain’t got mentally knackered ex poch players. Most have to go. Dead ballers
Was, did, then, had done. What’s he got now? Not a lot by the looks of it.
You still think it’s 2012 when it comes to Maureen, he’s had his day…
The pandemic didn’t happen on Merseyside or West London then?
One season (during a pandemic) and a game in and you think you’re right?
The only sane people are those who agree with you right? Says it all really
Yep. Who’ll be there till the end. 100% loyal to all he loves with no regrets. I love my club. Tottenham hotspur foundation big up youselves
I can only think of one man dem
Horrible they were apparently. The boys were too scared to complain.
When Jose first arrived at Chelsea he caught the Premier League napping – he concentrated on getting the most powerful side armed with ridiculous financial clout, tuned up 15 players who were fit almost every game and each a true athlete and barely needing to go beyond that core group he trusted, who were mostly big units too and simply bigger/stronger/faster than a lot of the oppo. He then installed a different psychology not really seen on these shores before and took advantage of Brit fair play to introduce his lads to the dark arts of winning by skirting as close to cheating as allowed.
He was a bit of a genius basically
Now every team knows these tactics and techniques, most players are true athletes, and even the small clubs can purchase star players and retain their best thanks to the TV money.
He’s a clever bloke but I think it’s too much to expect to catch the league napping again – as with his Man U, Chelsea return and now Spurs this is a bit trickier.
Course he ain’t no poch. He’s won it all. poch has won nothing. 10 years of nothing. You bigin him up all the time ain’t gonna change that until he actually wins something.
I can imagine, if ‘All or Nothing’ showed us anything its that by the end Poch and his team were toxic and clique’y
They aren’t coming back, we can all remember the good times – we move on
Maybe that was Jose’s ‘cuddly act’ in the documentary – now we see the real moan…I mean man
His staff weren’t very well liked at Tottenham. Some hated them.
Even if we win a few games and progress a bit in the Ropey it will only extend this sleepwalking into the abyss of mediocrity.
The only solution will be to reinstate Poch and his staff eventually. Is Levy’s ego too fragile for that? Would they even agree?
I agree Marbs, well said. I like it here, lots of sane people. Few loonies but that’s life! 😂
Thank you kind sir.
The best comment on the current situation. Despite the ongoing mismanagement of the club, Levy and Enic never see it as their fault, and so it continues.
I’ve watched 3.5 episodes of that crap. It’s clear Levy says all the right things because he knows the camera’s are on him. That Xmas party speech 😳Give me strength. Action speak later louder than words.
For the cultists he’s got them eating them out of the palm of his hand. For those who didn’t fall for the spiel…. we can see right through him and his uncle Joe
It’s been doing that since the day he took over. Boring and for the most part, ineffective football…
This club of ours just falls into one disaster after another.
Nothing will change until we have an owner who actually likes football and wants to invest in the football side of the club.
We nearly always beat Everton, especially at home. Everton have improved over the last 6 months and we’ve got worse, despite having the ‘greatest living coach’
This is a new low…
😂 yep, we’ll be certain to win the league after that!
We’ll scrape a win against the Bulgarian sheet metal workers and everything will be ‘fine’.
We’ll scrape a win against the Bulgarian sheet metal workers and everything will be ‘fine’.
The whole thing as a complete and utter mess and the TV show is a complete embarrassment and a cringe fest. All you feel like doing after watching it is fantasising of making Levy stand in the corner with his thumb in his mouth for being such a deluded and useless little t**d…
We won’t be in the Champions League again for years at this rate. Thanks for the memories Poch.
Someone take Maureen to the knackers yard, he’s finished at a top level coach, and even more so with no budget.
He ain’t no Poch, that’s for sure…
I thought his latent nastiness was already apparent. Looking at Kane’s body language, he appears to have given up the fight. His days at Spurs are numbered.
Some of us predicted this after the stadium move, and sadly it’s looking more like we were right, day by day.
It is a terrible schedule of games but it’s even worse when the squad is paper thin and lacks quality.
I can see the full late Chavski/Manure ‘Moaninhio’ appearing very soon. That’ll lift the lads… 😂
Southampton next weekend
We are an empty shell of a club with no soul or heart. A club that is the anchor tenant of an avaricious property developer owned by an offshore entity. A club that continues to treat it’s supporters with increasing contempt with the highest ticket prices in the PL. A club that sold season tickets to the new stadium, even though it knew that there was going to be another season at Wembley. A club that promised the supporters that there would still be funds for the transfer market despite the costs of the new stadium and then went two windows without buying a player. An event unknown in European football. A club that continues to peddle rumours in the transfer market as to our new recruits which are all smoke and mirrors. How many times have we read that Spurs made a last ditch attempt to buy Carlos Kickaball? We have no discernible scouting team to speak of , unless you count Steve Hichen which I don’t, no joined up transfer strategy and will be about to sack it’s eleventh manager whilst Enic have owned us. In the meantime, the dreams and illusions of many supporters have disappeared as we continue to be run by an incompetent megalomaniac.
It’s the same for every team. Our players just don’t seem to have any interest in what the manager might be saying.
New interest in Ings mentioned today.Does that mean Kane will finally be cashed in.
Hear hear. A Mourinho managed Spurs is sucking the interest and enthusiasm for the club out of me.
I hope it gets bad rapidly, results wise. Then Levy will have no choice but to give Mourinho the boot. The concern, of course, is the cost to get rid amounts to a squad striker that we so desperately need. What a mess and only one man is responsible for that…
Out come the excuses already. That’s never a good sign. This isn’t going to end well with Mourinho. Trouble is, is old baldy willing to pay him his huge severance pay when the rot continues, particularly in the current financial situation?
Everton bossed the midfield – end of.
Spurs have loads of attackers Son/Lucas/Bergwijn/Ali but no grafters/creaters to supply them.
A midfield of Hojbjerg and Winks – I watched Winks receive the ball pass it sideways then back and then gave up and didnt watch the 2nd half.
First opening day loss for the Special Needs One and first time we have lost to Everton in ages.
Poch Out
Looking at the fixture list I simply can’t see where the next 3 pts are coming from?? but then I always say that!
Sorry to disappoint but I am already resigned to yet another trophyless season and then what? My biggest fear that we shall be sucked into a relegation battle!
Oh my days
Which Champions League games? Its footballs equivalence of Eurovision.
Lucas putting his head down and sprinting into opposition players was a highlight from yesterday. That and his deft first touch which puts the ball 15 yards back towards where it came from.
Its the middle of the park where we are lacking. No cohesion and just big spaces. Which would be fine if our cms could pass.
Winks is a nothing player. Before we ran out of steam, say the first 13 minutes, there were at least 2 attacks halted because winks had to take a touch rather than just pinging it first time. He is shyte.
Hojberg hopefully just had a stinky debut but i saw glimpses if a player that can pass more than 15 yards.
So thats is out of the title race then we’d better win the bloody ropey
The group dynamic appears fractious. The empty stadiums and lack of atmosphere creates a training ground exercise environment. The days of sticking one in the back of the net, running to the corner flag to be idolised by screaming fans is gone. The pre game antics and lack of interest in players has taken this over hyped game to new depths of the abyss. The players will carry on regardless as will the chairman who is a cheap quick fix merchant.
A completely abject performance, no excuses just really poor.
If that’s what we have to look forward to for the season, then be prepared to lower expectations of winning anything or league positioning, as it’s less painful that way.
Bringing Poch up gain, there was a least a 3 year period where, despite not winning anything as many keep pointing out, I genuinely looked forward to the next game because we were entertaining and you felt we could win.
As some fans have said, move on and forget, to this..??
Hat tip to theboyH
That first paragraph was straight from the top drawer. It has lightened my mood for the day. A much needed chuckle
Ta
Seemingly managing a weak team both mentally and physically who don’t look a happy bunch busted flush Mourinho is full of hot air! He won’t last. I tell you he won’t last. For want of repetition he won’t last!! Reflecting badly on Levy’s appointment thinking he would be quick fix, never slow to press the ejector button when required sacking perhaps unsackable Jose is a costly exercise!! The pressure is mounting. Something eventually gives. It always does.
