Michael Bridge – ‘but no bids so far’ – Sky Sports ace reveals current position on one mooted transfer

By Eddie Razo -

While many are excited with what Tottenham Hotspur are doing this summer and what’s to come considering the names they’re currently linked to, there will also be a name that will need to help offset some of the spending.

One of the players Spurs have on their list that need to exit is midfielder Harry Winks. Everton is one of the club heavily linked for the 26-year-old, who is looking for a fresh start elsewhere to kick-start his career.

However, there is an issue regarding a possible deal with The Toffees. According to Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge, Tottenham and Everton still in talks over a Winks transfer, but they’re on different pages regarding how to complete a possible deal.

Bridge states that the north London club wants a permanent deal for the midfielder, who they reportedly value at £20 million. Nonetheless, their Premier League rival wants a loan agreement for the player. Winks knows he’s not in manager Antonio Conte’s plans, so he will be looking for an exit this summer.

I think Winks’ England career is just about over and moving to the Championship would put the final nail in that coffin. He undoubtedly still sees himself as a Prem player so would want to stay in it, but with a team that can stay in it (Everton, Villa, Palace, Southampton). MLS is a good shout, but he would not be given a second thought whilst out there and few players go there and come back unless Rangers/Celtic come knocking..

If I’m Winks I want to move to a club where I can play a lot and play well enough to make the now expanded WC England roster. But I’m not sure he even plays much at Everton, who have a lot of middle fielders already. His best bet is dropping down a division to like a Norwich or West Brom and then playing well enough to warrant a second look by a bigger team.

Probably the best move for Winks is to move to MLS like Bale and become a star here where he doesn’t have to worry about giving the ball away because very few players can actually capitalise on chances.

Are we surprised there are not many clubs in for Winks? We know he is largely ineffective, so the scouts of other clubs will know that too. Winks might believe he is a Ch Lg player but there will be few teams in the EPL top half willing to buy him, definitely no top 4 contenders.

Where does that fit in with Winks’ ambition? I feel Winks would probably want to see out his contract rather than sign for a bottom half team with a risk of relegation. It is whether Everton are considered in that bracket even after last season’s brush with going to the Championship. Are they really that bad or did they suffer really bad injury luck?

For me Everton are in the toilet after a few seasons of truly awful buying. Loan deals suit their needs. Unless there are any other clubs in for Winks, getting rid on loan would still be good for us as a club. I would dearly love a transfer fee for him but moving him out of the Club even in the short term, like Ndom, is a positive.

Please don’t confuse the issue with actual truth and common sense.

Read Evertons financial are an issue and the current accounting cycle is until the end of the June. They won’t be buying this week. At the same point sales this week would be good for Evertons books.

Why on earth ENIC don’t just make this work..”its complicated”…sell Winks or loan him with an obligation, get Richarlison, then move on to a centre back (which has also stalled)…yer but Real Madrid, yeh but Barcelona….yawn

‘While many are excited by what Spurs are doing this summer……”
Some people are easily pleased.Fake news about a warchest, two freebies and one credible signing hardly raise the excitement stakes.Levy’s meddling is going to jam everything up and Conte won’t wait forever.
