“Maybe he needs that fresh challenge” Pundit urges Spurs man to leave

By Bruce Grove -

Danny Mills believes that Harry Winks isn’t given enough credit at Tottenham and reckons that the midfielder should leave the club if he cannot be trusted to be a starter.

The Englishman is a graduate of the Tottenham academy and he was one of the favourite players of Mauricio Pochettino.

The arrival of Jose Mourinho has changed things for him. Now he sits on the bench and watches the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko get the nod to play ahead of him.

The summer arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has also made it harder for him to play for the first-team.

Mills is of the opinion that Winks has never been considered a regular at Spurs.

He says that the midfielder has simply had spells in the team and that he has been in fine form, but he is always removed when someone else returns to full fitness or for some other reason.

Mills told Talksport’s Kick-Off: “He’s never really established himself as a starter, as a first name on the team sheet.

“He’s had spells, he’s had runs in the team where he’s done very, very well, but he always seems to be eclipsed by somebody else when they come in.

“Coming through the ranks, he’s been there a long time, maybe he needs that fresh challenge.

“Is it too different to what Dele Alli is going through? If the manager doesn’t fancy you, then sometimes you just have to accept that, bite the bullet, move on and look for a fresh challenge.

“Harry Winks is a great player, he’s very, very good and I’m sure he’ll have a lot of options. But he needs to be playing.

“If he’s still got England aspirations, which I’m sure he has, he needs to be playing regularly week in, week out.”

If he’s still got England aspirations? Must have since he played in the last game.
