Mauricio Pochettino eyeing Premier League return after PSG sack but with which club? – opinion

By Mehdi Gokal -

Mauricio Pochettino is in hunt for a new job after being sacked by PSG and the Argentine has his eyes set on a return to the Premier League.

The former Spurs boss lasted only 18 months at PSG and has been painted as a failure by the media. This in actual isn’t entirely true as the problems at PSG lies beyond just the managerial figure.

Not only did Pochettino win the league with PSG with a 15 point gap, he also led them to the Champions League semi final in his first season, where they were beaten by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The only other manager to take PSG this far in the Champions League was Thomas Tuchel who was also sacked but is now flourishing at Chelsea.

Much like Tuchel, Maurcio Pochettino is now looking for a move to the Premier League and there is no doubt about him being on the radar of several top clubs in England.

However, the only club he will not even consider in England is Arsenal because of his special association with Tottenham.

A close friend said as reported by The Sun: “Mauricio has never hidden his belief that he feels happier in the Premier League than anywhere else. He loves it in England and he also knows he is admired here for what he has done in the past.”

Mauricio Pochettino had been on Manchester United’s radar for the longest time but with them having just hired Ten Hag, they can be ruled out for now but you never know with Manchester United these days.

Pep Guardiola is nearing the end of his contract at Manchester City and with him not having renewed his contract yet, Mauricio Pochettino could very well be the ideal replacement.

Another potential club he could go to is Newcastle who last year got taken over by a Saudi Arabia led consortium. With them now having almost unlimited resources at their disposal and ambitions to follow Manchester City’s suit, they could very well want to hire a manager of his caliber to take them to the next level.

The chances of a return to Tottenham are next to zero at this point with Antonio Conte having a successful spell last season and the full backing of the owners in the transfer window this summer. However, keeping the recent history in mind, managers haven’t lasted a long time at Spurs after Pochettino so you never know. For now, Antonio Conte has our full backing and Mauricio Pochettino has our full blessings if a return to the Premier League is what he wants.

He could replace Franky Lamps siv games in, cos Everton are gonna struggle again. At least Deli would get some minutes. Or he could go back to Southampton and reset, as Ralph is looking to draw his pension early 😏

He’s not as good as some say he is. He’s a nice guy, he’s not a winner. Nice guys rarely are.
