Martin Keown explains why Spurs having Antonio Conte gives them the edge in the top-four race

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur is in a fight if they want to clinch UEFA Champions League football for next season. Three points separate Arsenal, Manchester United, and Spurs from a fourth-place finish; it will be the minor details that play a significant role in who grabs that last spot.

In his column for the Daily Mail, English football pundit Martin Keown feels having a world-class manager in Antonio Conte gives Tottenham a ‘real advantage’ over top-four rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.

“In this feverish top-four fight, Tottenham will feel they have a real advantage over their rivals and that’s because of Antonio Conte and his record,” Keown wrote.

“In Conte they have a coach who has won titles for every major club he has managed – five in total with Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan – and knows what it takes to qualify for the Champions League.”

Conte has won plenty of trophies and has the experience of being part of races toward the end of the season, so it’s easy to see why Keown puts his money on the Italian tactician getting Spurs into the top four.

This isn’t to see Tottenham can’t stumble; they have dropped points to clubs below them in the table over the past couple of months. Nonetheless, with this final stretch of the season, Conte will hope that his squad sees that severity and avoids those performances.

We have also won against City, won against Arsenal, drawn with Liverpool… We are more of a machine than the Arse and we’ll prove it by pipping them to top four.. COYFS 🐔

Have to agree with Marty here.. Also look at the remaining fixtures. We definitely have an easier run of games.

It’s not inconceivable that Woolwich could overtake Chelsea. They have to play each other, Woolwich have a game in hand, and Chelsea are still involved in the FAC and the CL.
Yesterday’s meltdown v Brentford may indicate that the disruption around ownership is getting to the players. They must be thinking, is Chelsea where I want to be next season? And they have deadwood in the shape of Lukaku and Werner that is starting to drag them down.
Well done C Eriksen!

Optimistic. I think we blew it losing those games to Burnley, Wolves and S-hampton. You can’t expect top 4 after results like that. Arsenal are a machine right now and need a big drop off in form for us to pip them. Unlikely imo.

THE BOOKMAKERS would have Arsenal clear favs for 4th place but dont tell me an emphatic win today wouldn’t put the wind up the gooners ! Our run in would be classed as slightly easier than theirs , but we know the importance of the derby [ yet to be arranged] Without doubt we need to win it === BUT SO DO THEY .
The United challenge is fading , a win today will ignite us , then lets watch Palace , undoubtedly on the up under Viera , take those Gooners to task . That game is definitely too close to call !!
Isn’t all this the reason we love this frigging game ?? C O Y S !!!!!!!

He has a point but THFC would need Arse-nal to drop more points than just the NLD match.

I think we messed things up a couple of months ago with those shockingly poor results. The man is talking garbage…

Eriksen will have enjoyed doing the Russian Mobster club over. ‘The Battle Of Stamford Bridge’ now a distance to memory. Thanks Christian, and well done The Bees.

Hahaha … once a Gooner always a Gooner! Now it’s just possible Keown actually believes it and if the two clubs were level on points and games played, I would agree with him! However they are not and clearly the Arse are in the box seat with a potential 6 point gap from us, with the same number of games played. So unless we win the NLD, the race for 4th is over in my opinion.

Doing his best to ramp up the pressure on us. Don’t blame him; he’s a gooner at heart

Hahaha, yeah right Martin. Doing his best for the goons, obviously they have the advantage as they are 3 points ahead with a game in hand!
