Manchester United identifies in-form star as a sweetener in their move for Kane

By Bruce Grove -

Manchester United is set to offer a player as a part of their bid to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham.

The Red Devils have been boosted in their long-term pursuit of the England captain after he asked to leave Spurs.

Kane has been loyal to the Lilywhites all his career and remains one of the best players in England.

He is an ever-reliable goalscorer, but his goals and assists haven’t been enough to help Spurs end their trophy drought.

They cannot fault him for wanting to leave now and he will not lack suitors for his signature.

Manchester City and United have been named front runners for his signature, and the latter is keen to win the race.

The Times say United wants to include Jesse Lingard in their bid for his signature to soften the loss of Kane for Spurs.

Lingard has spent this second half of the season out on loan at West Ham and he has been in fine form for the Hammers.

The 28-year-old has 9 goals and 5 assists from 15 Premier League games this season.

He would still struggle to play for United next season, but he could contribute tellingly at Tottenham.

the idea of United outcast to be offered in the deal of the best and top striker of Tottenham says all. The difference and the ambitions of the 2 teams is very clear.

Levy agreeing sweeteners with United brings me back to that horrific night when Berbatov took a trip to Manchester, and Ed Chamberlin announced on Sky Sports News Understands that Fraizer Campbell was heading to Spurs on loan.
How did so many not see the signs back then?

United are more than a top striker away from the league or winning the CL. They need better full backs and a defensive midfielder. This would be a bad move for Kane.

If Kane wants to go, he will go and Levy will have to accept the best price that is offered, even if it’s below what he wants. Keeping an unhappy player won’t help the team and won’t push Kane‘s value up for a transfer next year. Kane is unhappy and wants out. Don’t blame him.

Kane will only be allowed to leave this summer if Levy’s valuation is met and even then it is only to City or abroad. I think City have shown in the past (Alexis Sanchez for example) they are willing to walk away. I doubt Levy get’s his figure from City and he won’t sell Kane to any other Prem club. If he is sold abroad there will be a clause relating to a sale back to the Prem (Tottenham first option / Tottenham cut of fee) in order to prevent Kane going abroad for a year and then returning to UTD etc.
As has been mentioned, levy holds a lot of the aces this summer, in a years time his hand is much weaker – Levy can call most of the shots on a transfer this summer which is why I am sure Kane will go.
