Manchester City will need to push past £1billion transfer fee mark to sign Kane

By Bruce Grove -

Manchester City’s move for Harry Kane will push their spending on transfers above £1billion since they made Pep Guardiola their manager in 2016.

City has been long-term admirers of Kane and after he asked to leave Tottenham this summer, they have become favourites to land him.

The England captain has refused to turn up for preseason so far and the Premier League champions are believed to be working behind the scenes to sign him.

He isn’t the only big-money player that will move to the Etihad this summer as they are set to land Jack Grealish as well.

The Euro 2020 England star will join City for around £100m and transfermarkt data shows it will move their spending on players to £918m since they made Guardiola their manager.

If City then pushes on to sign Kane, they would have to break the £1billion mark to get the England captain.

Grealish’s transfer fee would be a British record, but Tottenham is demanding £150m to sell Kane, according to The Daily Mail and that would see the prolific striker quickly surpass his England pal as the most expensive British player in history.

Kane has yet to turn up for preseason and at 28, he obviously feels now is the time for him to leave Tottenham so that he can start winning trophies.

Agreed. Levy has turned the club into a farce. The manager ‘hunt’ showed the chaos he has created.

You should be bitter to Levy he’s the one that lied to Kane about ambition.

Yeah nothing like having a player on the books who is desperate to be elsewhere. It’s different to the Modric situation too.
But Harry was wrong not to turn up to training, he should have turned up and handed in his transfer request plus a statement about lack of ambition from the owners. That way 99% of the fans would have sympathised with him. Many still do mind.

Levy created his situation in the first place. Shame he didn’t react 3 years ago and bring in the supporting players to grant Kane’s ambition. He basically screwed Kane over with lies, now Kane might play dirty as well and whose fault is that?

I’m sure if City come up with 150 or 160 then he will go. Levy won’t budge and rightly so.

United are another side that spent a lot but won zilch since a certain Portuguese guy left the premises. Might be about to change with Sancho and Varane coming in, though.

Spending doesn’t necessarily guarantee success, but zero spending guarantees failure.

I think we are all being played by all the parties for their own ends.

I think that’s what Levy will say, Harry staying away hasn’t helped his case one iota.

Every story online is saying Harry and his team want face to face meetings with Levy, not the other way round.

You need to be in the same continent for that to happen

None of us know what exactly is going on. If Levy is such a tough guy and values Harry so much all he to do is say to Harry, ‘ Harry you’ve three years left on your contract you’re going nowhere get on with it.

He forced Modric to stay. I think we’ll find out shortly just who is playing who.

Agree with you The team failed to win anything it’s never on one player. Blaming Harry for Spurs winning anything is unfair.

Take a look at Barcelona probably spent more than City. I think they had the three most expensive players in history. Recently had no success.

Just shows money talks £1billion over 5 years everyone said Pep is a world class coach I think anyone would be with that money at his disposal

The way he’s behaving is not how an England captain should behave if he leaves then I hope he’s stuck in Man City reserves / bench and gets stripped of the captaincy it’s not that I’m bitter about this at all 🙂

Levy will sell Kane at the right price (£130-150m?)-in the final analysis he is a commodity. The sooner Kane gets shifted to the big bucks club the better for Spurs imo. Don’t get me wrong I think he has, over the years, become a great player and goal scorer whom I admire; but he has also become a distraction and now with this “no show” business a liability with zero respect for both his team mates and the club. Football is a team sport last time I looked and Kane never had the competition at Spurs. He played when not fit, notably in the CL final which was another of his no shows. He’s had his chances to win medals with Spurs and England but has failed. He will not enjoy that same “big fish” status in the swollen City pond but I have no doubt he will flourish and win stuff. But lets not screw around here and get him out of our club quickly ffs so that Nuno can attend to the rest of our team and to those who actually want to wear the shirt!

Totally agree, we have reached finals, semi finals and been in title races, all with HK in the team, some have said he hasn’t turned up when it really matters which is true to a certain degree.

Every player wants to win trophies, the majority don’t that’s life. There are many players who haven’t won loads but still have legacies with clubs because the way they have behaved.

This will not end amicably, it’s a lose lose scenerio for HK if the fee can’t be agreed for his sale he stays, sulks, toxic dressing room.

If he downs tools, he jepodises his England career in World Cup year.

Every Tottenham fan can understand his reasons for going but the way he & his brother have handled it is poor. He’s tarnished his reputation if the reasons for his no-show are true & due to his lack of denial, we can assume they are, he shouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t get a hero’s welcome when he returns to our ground. It just looks like he’s taking the mickey out of the club & the fans. Not the Mr Nice Guy that people think he is. Grow some & ask for a transfer.
