RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and they have an option to sign the player permanently at the end of the season.
The manager of the Bundesliga club Marco Rose has now admitted that Tottenham have the opportunity to make the move permanent and it remains to be seen how the situation develops. According to recent reports we covered, Tottenham will be able to sign the player for a fee of just £14.5 million.
“We are not in contact but, of course, I am following his development,” Rose tells Sky Germany. “He’s starting to score again. It’s a result of being comfortable and feeling good. He should keep riding the wave.
“Basically, he is one of our players. But Tottenham obviously have the opportunity to sign him completely.”
The 28-year-old striker has been a useful squad player for the North London club so far and he will be hoping to establish himself as a player for Tottenham. He does not have a future at RB Leipzig and staying in the Premier League would be ideal for him.
The German international is versatile enough to operate anywhere across the front three and he could be a useful option for Tottenham when it comes to rotating the squad and dealing with injury problems.
Spurs will need a deeper squad if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League and signing an experience attacker like Werner for £14.5 million would be a wise investment.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to trigger the option to sign him permanently in the coming months now.
