Tottenham Hotspur left-back Destiny Udogie is reportedly attracting serious interest from Premier League giants, including Manchester City, following his impressive performances since joining from Udinese.
The 22-year-old made his Premier League debut in August 2023 against Brentford and instantly slotted into Ange Postecoglou’s system with maturity and flair.
His dynamic presence at left-back quickly established him as a key figure in Spurs’ backline, earning praise from many including Ashley Cole who has labelled him as an ‘elite’ player.
Recognising his impact, Tottenham handed Udogie a contract extension until 2030, signalling their long-term faith in the Italian international.
Man City have shortlisted Tottenham defender as summer target
According to Fabrizio Romano, writing in his exclusive column for GiveMeSport, Manchester City are plotting a major squad overhaul in the upcoming transfer window.
As part of their revamp, strengthening the full-back department has been earmarked as a priority for Pep Guardiola.
While Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso remains City’s primary target, Udogie has emerged as a viable alternative due to his defensive stability and attacking thrust—traits that align perfectly with Guardiola’s tactical demands.
However, Romano notes that any potential move for Udogie will be far from straightforward. Spurs view him as an integral part of their project under Postecoglou and are reluctant to part ways with the promising defender.

Destiny Udogie’s time at Spurs
Udogie’s second season at Tottenham hasn’t been smooth sailing. He has struggled with injury setbacks, most notably picking up a knock during Spurs’ recent 2-2 draw against Wolves, forcing him off in the 50th minute.
The recent hamstring injury saw him miss two months of action —though this one, unlike last season’s hamstring surgery, didn’t require an operation. That previous injury not only cut short his campaign but also ruled him out of Euro 2024, dealing a blow to both club and country.
In his absence, Djed Spence has been deployed at left-back and has shown glimpses of promise. However, Tottenham’s defensive vulnerabilities, especially in high-profile matches like the defeat to Newcastle, have highlighted just how important Udogie is when fit.
When available, Udogie offers the full package—defensive discipline, technical quality, and the ability to support the attack from deep. These qualities make him an attractive prospect for Pep Guardiola’s fluid, possession-heavy system.
Whether City will make a formal move remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Tottenham are in no rush to sell, and it would likely take a significant offer to tempt them into negotiations.
As the summer transfer window approaches, speculation will continue to swirl around Udogie’s future.
For now, Spurs fans will hope to see their star full-back return to full fitness and help push the club toward a strong finish this season.
