Tottenham Hotspur’s growing injury crisis has worsened with the news that left-back Destiny Udogie will be sidelined for eight weeks due to a hamstring injury, as reported by The Sun.

The 22-year-old sustained the injury during the second half of Spurs’ 2-2 draw against Wolves last weekend, leaving the pitch in the 50th minute.

Ange after the game confirmed that the player has picked up a hamstring injury caused by being overworked due to the depleted squad.

Last season, he underwent a surgery to treat a hamstring problem that ended up finishing his season as well as caused him to miss the Euros. This fresh injury blow will not need a surgery but will see him miss 2 months of action.

This development is a massive blow to a squad already struggling with numerous defensive injuries. Manager Ange Postecoglou faces the daunting challenge of coping without his first-choice backline, as centre-backs Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Ben Davies are also sidelined. Additionally, first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario remains out of action with a fractured ankle.

Since signing with Spurs permanently in August 2022 and spending a season on loan at Udinese, Udogie has cemented his place as a key player. He made his debut in Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Brentford in August 2023 and quickly became a reliable figure in the team. His performances earned him a contract extension through 2030, highlighting his importance to the club.

Udogie has been a regular fixture in Postecoglou’s lineup this season, making 23 appearances across all competitions, including 21 starts. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively has made him indispensable, and his absence will leave a noticeable gap on the left flank.

In Udogie’s absence, Djed Spence is expected to step into the role once again, but the reshuffled defence now relies heavily on Pedro Porro as the sole fit starter among Postecoglou’s first-choice lineup.

With Tottenham sitting in 11th place in the Premier League and a crucial League Cup semi-final tie coming up against Liverpool, this injury comes at a particularly challenging time.

As Spurs aim to stabilise their form, the January transfer window is expected to become even more crucial. Reinforcements will likely be necessary to navigate the rest of the season and address the mounting defensive challenges.
