Love him or hate him Daniel Levy has once again shown his masterclass at transfer deals

By Bruce Grove -

Daniel Levy is one club chairman that we all love to hate, but the Spurs supremo is one of the smartest businessmen in the football world.

It understandable when one is frustrated by his antic sometimes especially when you consider some of the players that Spurs have lost to rivals because of Levy’s reluctance to splash the cash or go the extra mile.

Levy wants to always win in every deal that he is involved in and he has pulled off one of his most impressive ones yet.

Spurs have just completed the signing of Matt Doherty from Wolves and the Republic of Ireland international will join the Lilywhites as one of the best full-backs in England over the past two seasons, yet he has been signed for a modest fee.

Doherty has played more than 90 games for Wolves over the past two seasons and he has had more direct goal involvement than all the other full-backs in the Premier League apart from Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Yet Levy has managed to negotiate with Wolves and signed him for just £13.4million with no add-ons, claims Football London.

With transfer fees so inflated, that is an extremely good deal by anyone’s standards.

Doherty will be a major improvement to Jose Mourinho’s team as the Lilywhites attempts to win the Europa League next season.

Seems good value – still, he’s 29 soon so can’t afford an iffy start

Really pleased with both signings adding a bit of steel (I dont count big Joe as a signing just a replacement for Worm)

Strange deal, such a low fee for a top full back and no interest from other clubs. I’m glad he chose Spurs but something seems off about this.
