“Long negotiations with Tottenham”, “…agreement between clubs” – Romano shares update on 26-yr-old

By Mehdi Gokal -

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon’s move to Real Sociedad has collapsed.

Despite ‘long negotiations’ between Tottenham and the Spanish club, the two clubs failed to reach an agreement.

Sociedad have instead agreed a deal with Arsenal for their Scottish full-back Kieran Tierney who is set to travel to Spain tomorrow for his medical.

It was reported last week that the Spanish side are keen on signing the former Real Madrid man but were finding it hard to negotiate with Daniel Levy.

Romano shared the update on X:

“After Tierney’s move to Real Sociedad, Reguilon deal collapses. Despite long negotiations with Tottenham for their target there was no agreement between clubs.“

Tierney will travel to Spain tomorrow [Saturday] in order to undergo medical and sign at Real Sociedad.”

While the transfer collapse does not have any affect on Tottenham as such since they are no short of funds at the moment after Harry Kane’s sale. However, Spurs do need to trim their squad which has a growing list of players that are no longer in the plans of Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs have done well in the transfer incomings but have found it very difficult to get rid of the deadwood.

Players like Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier, Giovani Lo Celso, and Hugo Lloris are just a few in the long list of players that Tottenham are actively looking to either sell or loan out.

It has however been reported that the Tottenham will focus on their outgoings first before signing anymore players. Spurs still need to sign a striker and a defender at least in order to end the transfer window strongly. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to do both before the deadline.
