London Rivals Target Same Coach That Levy Wants To Deliver ‘Attacking Football’

By The Boy -

Tottenham Hotspur finds itself in a right old pickle yet again and the pressure for Daniel Levy to make a wise choice when hiring his next head coach is mounting. The club hasn’t had a manager see out an entire season since Mauricio Pochettino’s stint in N17 which also ended in tears. The ‘to-do‘ list for the Spurs’ board makes uncomfortable reading, Harry Kane’s contract is up in the air, and the stadium’s naming rights have not been snapped up, despite extensive efforts made both internally and externally. Fabio Paratici is on a ‘leave of absense’.

According to The Times, Tottenham now has competition for one of their front-runner managerial picks, Arne Slot. The Dutchman has been the subject of much speculation, as his Feyenoord side top of their division playing attacking football, which is something Spurs supporters would gladly welcome at this stage, having been largely starved of it under Nuno Espírito Santo, José Mourinho, and Antonio Conte.

Slot is said to now be of interest to West Ham and Crystal Palace, both of whom are struggling. Roy Hodgson had been appointed manager of Crystal Palace until the end of the season after Patrick Vieira failed to make the grade. At West Ham, David Moyes might think himself extremely fortunate to avoid getting sucked into an end-of-season relegation scrap.

The appointment of Cristian Stellini looks to be going nowhere fast and now is the time for Levy to act with strength and speed. Surely Spurs are a better bet than either Palace or the Hammers, but who knows what the extent of Spurs’ reputational damage is, after two serial winners failed to achieve anything under ENIC?
