Loan Deal Off Beam – Spurs Prefer To Sell Says Source

By The Boy -

Watching Spurs eventually beat Royal Antwerp last night was mainly a frustrating business although there was a few light moments such as when Harry Winks went off and proceeded to head straight down the tunnel. Just as when Dele Alli had previously ‘vanished’ from the bench and sooner after returned, having nipped off to grab a warmer coat, the commentators made reference to how such incidents might prompt journalists to begin busily typing stories of fury and desire to quit the club.

Bang on cue at half past ten last night, we had Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail eager to tell us PSG would be back in, looking to loan Dele Alli next month. “PSG are confident they can sign Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli on loan in the January window” wrote Sami, probably even before the players had got home and slipped into their jim-jams.

My understanding from a source close to the club is that Spurs would find selling Dele far more preferable, and this was why the suggestion of loans were rebuffed in the summer.

maybe alli was a big part of the reason why the team was flying?

there were times last season, and in pochs final fullseason where i wondered if deles team mates were deliberately trying to make him look bad…the passes deliberately too far ahead of him,or too short ,not by a mile but just enough..players can work within those margins..its not hard to do if a players unpopular with his team mates..maybe theres been a fall out..but none the more for that i do think his treatment has been nothing short of abysmal this year, hes not been given a chance ..yet contrast his treatment by mourinho to bales treatment.does anyone seriously think alli could contribute any less to the cause than bale has so far?..a great talent (alli) is being misused or abused ..if its because alli doesnt play as an extra defender ,or wont, well..maybe thats cos hes not that kind of a player..players who can run around all day and clog everyone are ten a penny ,players with allis talent are rare indeed ..maybe he needs help to get back his confidence and his swagger back..yes hes childish and annoying with some of his mannerisms ,but i noticed last season that was creeping into sons game too..remember sons penalty when he stopped -started ,checked and checked again and changed direction and scuffed the ball luckily into the corner-it didnt even look good..just plain silly. and this silly forming the letter O with his thumb and index finger wen he scores..he can be every bit as childish too.

£5m plus per season for the next 4 years.Only a few clubs could afford him.

So what you are saying is that his transfer value has effectively halved from it’s highs. He is also on a pretty high salary which will deter buyers as well.

Son 🔥 PL (P171 G 63 A32) Dele PL (P158 G 50 A 33). Not too shabby for a midfielder who can’t get a game. Son has 13 more goals and 1 less assist in 13 more games.

Dele’s highest value pre covid19 was touted at £90m his current value post covid on Transfermarkt is £46m. English players values are usually high and having 4 years left on his contract I don’t see anyone getting him for under £40m.

You are absolutely correct, 100%, but for those 3 seasons the team was flying, almost won the league twice etc etc, Dembele making the team tick, Erikson in his prime, but i honestly feel that when the team wasn’t so good he was anonymous. kane was still scoring, so was sonny, but i felt that was when he lost his way..

Dele’s first season he scored 10 PL goals, his second season he scored more with 18. You don’t get to 50 PL goals quicker than Hazard,Scholes,Gerrard and Beckham through Luck.

If Dele doesn’t get any game time over the extremely busy Christmas fixture schedule then he’s toast, he would need to put on a masterclass against Stoke to save his season at this rate. Would like to have a buy back clause if we do sell him though, although unlikely to ever make use of it at this rate!

Unfortunately for Dele I think his time is up under Jose. For differing reasons, Dele, (Winks and Sanchez also), are not Jose’s ‘cup of tea’. Dele doesn’t work hard enough, doesn’t discharge defensive responsibilities well enough and is not physical enough to play midfield in Jose’s system, which only leaves the #10 shirt. Unfortunately with Harry Kane, the best #10 in the country right now, plus Sonny who can also play the role, both of whom work far harder than Dele and with Sid (Vincious) as the preferred back-up, there is no role for the boy. I believe that Jose would like to sell Dele, Winks and Sanchez also, if he could, in order to bring in his own preferred replacements. Skriniar is obviously one, I am not sure who the other targets might be, but Sabitzer looks a class player, who would be a terrific addition to the squad.

Dele has the potential to be world class but he’s got to a certain level and for whatever reason doesn’t look like he has the personal drive to push on and be his absolute best self. This makes him like almost everyone else on the planet.

The net result is we have a high earning player who isn’t good enough to get in the team. Its best for Spurs if he’s sold while he can still command a decent fee.

The real fans in the ground showed they still love him singing his name last night and in the NLD on Sunday. If we are not going to play with creative players like Dele and want to fill the midfield with more Sissoko types there’s no point in keeping him.Dele was given a chance against Ludogorets and was one of our best players and had a hand in 3 of the 4 goals scored,he was brought on for the last ten mins against LASK and scored a penalty.Dele is sitting on. £5m+ a year contract for the next 4 years, and will have a heafty transfer fee so only the big clubs will be able to afford him or entice him.

I think Poch played him no matter what, so i don’t think he felt he had to work hard to be in the team. The team carried him and Erikson towards the end of Poch’s tenure, and i wonder if things would have turned out different had Poch had the wherewithal to drop them both. Ali was great for a couple of seasons, scored loads of goals, but i felt he got by on youthful enthusiasm, opponents not being clued up on him yet, and also, greatness around him helping him score. All the player now know that if they don’t put in a shift, they don’t play, simple…

Dele little touches, 5 yard feed passes and late arrivals into the box to score goals were his trademark. He’s probably not quick or strong enough for a Jose side but I believe he could be great again in the right team. Time will tell.

I think we should sell him as he has never developed into the player we all thought he might turn out to be. I have asked this question before on this site but what is he worth in the transfer market now? The problem will be that Levy will overvalue him as he is wont to do with all the Spurs players he wants to sell.

Agree with all those points. Sell him and sign Sabitzer who would fit in perfectly

Think we bought potential – and he had it in spades…just never developed. I personally wonder if it was his agent (blowing wind up his…., Levy for uping his wage too fast, or Poch for simply not managing him as he needed).

I iimagine a sale would be preferable – but Levy maybe of the view (if Jose doesnt want him) that his value in January will not be as high as in summer – especially if PSG works in his favour.

As for the Alli/Winks incident. I think Alli’s was a lot more excusable – but you dont know if Jose telling to have a warm shower was true (not likely as warm down so essential to avoid injury).

I’d be very happy for him to be sold. Never quite saw what his purpose was as he has no pace and an inability to tackle properly. He gets pushed off the ball far too easily and seems to have made a career in flashy stuff that doesn’t always work. Can’t help thinking he needs a little more muscle to improve his pace and ball retention. If you add in the ‘far too much too soon syndrome’ you are looking at a bit of a busted flush.
Thanks for your lucky first season with us but I think you have been found out.
