“Levy’s dream” “Wow” These Fans Can’t Quite Believe What They Saw At The Tottenham Stadium

By The Boy -

They told us that the new stadium was going to be a game-changer, and boy, they told us no lies. Fans were initially reduced to client reference numbers, and now, some have become day-trippers at a holiday camp.

Quite how Spurs fans could act like this – in front of a picture of Bill Nicholson – is beyond me. Not because Bill was some sainted character, but just because one image represents an extraordinary part of football’s history and the other is so very at odds with it.

Its like that with most of the greats from the past, left with little financially compared to their achievements. I know Pat Jennings and ossie still live in Broxbourne. Nice enough area. But nothing compared to what players have now who have achieved nothing.

But mediocrity is rewarded with big houses and flash cars etc. That’s where I see spurs now, a poor man that won a little bit of money acting like he’s made it in life.

I understand football is a business. But fans don’t care about, most points gain per net spend or profit margins. As long as the club is well run and the team is winning then that’s all is asked for. Not having the soul and money sacked out of the club for third party gains.

I still think some people are in denial. People believe change is good. Not all change is good and I don’t think Spurs have changed for the better under ENIC.

I used to see Bill in his later years in the area driving a battered old Ford Sierra. The great man wasn’t left with much financially to show for his achievements. When you see this kind of thing happening as part of the business model that ENIC have put in place to make them even richer, it makes you feel queasy.

Using the cache of the club’s name and stringing the fans along but achieving nothing on the football side (while adding to your asset value) is basically criminality.

FFP doesn’t protect clubs and fans from people like ENIC, it just emboldens them…

Certainly part of the lack of conviction generally within the club under Levy. When saving money becomes more important than winning, the players follow suit…

Like I said up above. I’m just hurt with everything with the club and vented. Maybe I did go over board. When I went to games with my dad, we did the same as you going to different locals. Starting in the Gilpin, then down to the Coach and horse or the bricklayers, or to the Irish center on Pretoria road.

I don’t like the new way things are done or encouraged. That what Levy is more interested in then what goes on the pitch. I just want us to win a few things like my dad got to see. 2 league cups in my 28 years as a fan, and I don’t see it changing soon.

Why are they not true Spurs because they ar3 enjoying a sing song before the game? Just because they are enjoying themselves in a sing sing do they care any less than you?
The strategy the club are employing is encouraging people to increase their dwell time at the stadium by getting there earlier and staying later which inevitably results in increased food and drink sales.
My generation used to either drink local to home or near the ground and get to ground just before kick off as old school stadiums were not attractive propositions to eat and drink in .
Whilst i personally are not interested in the new stadium experience if it appeals to others that’s fine by me live and let live.
As for doing it in front of a picture of Bill Nick, do you really think he’d give a damn?

Nuno knew things were not right. He made comments about player commitment. The players definitely did not want him, but the same players hardly helped Poch in his last two years or Jose.

The day that Bill Nicholson and Eddie Bailey his assistant resigned from Spurs Eddie Bailey signed on at the local Labour Exchange.

The following week Bill Nicholson did the same. Hard to believe.

Maybe you’re right. I don’t know, it might be just that I’m hurt by everything going on with the club now.

Maybe the way I was brought was old school, and can’t get on board with the way the my generation of fans think and want.

I just want the club to be successful and that’s it. To me that’s what Bill represents. All i want to do is have a few drinks before a game, cheer them on for 2 hours, then have a few more drinks then go home.

I don’t recall Newcastle fans doing this sort of thing whilst Ashley was in charge. But I could be wrong.

I could be reading too much into it and my impassioned rant may have been a bit much.

But my sentiment behind it of ENIC out doesn’t change, and I won’t apologise for that.

Having worked in the US and attended a number of football (soccer) matches. The pre & post match entertainment and in some cases in game entertainment is as much as part of the day as the game you go to see.

People forget, we are an entertainment venue now. Or partnership with the NFL is a direct correlation to this kind of entertainment.

Modern day fans are a very different breed to us ol farts who like a hot bovril and meat pie and a pint after the game.

You know I’m no ENIC & Levy fan. But this is what they’re good at. It’s this they should stick to and let the football people deal with the football side of the business.

I can’t image what Bill would think of this”

I doubt he’d give it any thought at all. Just get on with his day, like a normal human being.

It might have been better if it was him at a league game using that instrument to jack up the players on the field, instead of him just standing there every game with arms folded thinking that things were perfect and going OK.

What a absolute f*****g disgrace. They’re aren’t true Spurs fans, this is all down to Levy treating our club like S**t for years. Allow plastic fans in and treating our club and stadium like some summer holiday camp for kids.

Doing this in front of a greatest manager and infront in of the club’s most iconic image, and an iconic image of British football. Makes me sick to the depths of my stomach, I’m almost in tears seeing this s**t.

My very first Spurs game was at Bill’s testimonial against Fiorentina in 2001 when I was 8. When we beat them 3-0. Going to the Lane with my dad and all his friends and some of mine, to honour this great man and the achievements he made with our club. Walking out onto the pitch with Martin Chivers, Cliff Jones, Alan Mullery, Pat Jennings and some many more.

As an 8 year then I know the significance and greatest of Bill and felt honoured to be at the Lane that night. How the crowd responded when he walked on the pitch at half time. The cheering, the chanting and a few tears from those old enough to witness he’s achievements as a manager.

I remember how my dad and uncle (who moved over Ireland in the late 60’s a kids and settled in tottenham on De Quincy road) and all those who watched and supported Spurs from the late 60’s, responded when the news broke of Bill’s passing.

The tears and sadness that this great man has gone. They witnessed most of what he did as a manager, and as a consultant for Keith Burkinshaw when he took over and gave us our second golden period of the late 70’s through to the mid 80’s.

Its because of Bill we dream and hope for success because he brought it to us. All he ever did was love Tottenham and did ever thing he could for our club.

Then Levy and Lewis have now stripped away the final piece of our soul now, for allowing and creating this fake fan culture around our club. No Spurs fan who knows the history of our club would dare think about doing oops side your head, let alone actually do it, in front of this image of Bill. They may have a sing and dance in front of it if we won anything meaningful as a cause of celebration. But not this, never this.

I can’t image what Bill would think of this. I’m glad he’s not around to see this dismise in person.

This cannot carry on. Something drastic needs to be done. The parasitic cancer of ENIC needs to be aggressively removed from our club for any chance for it to survive.

ENIC GET THE F**K OUT NOW
