Latest update on Tottenham striker search shows one player emerging as likely signing

By Bruce Grove -

It is common knowledge that Tottenham are in the market for a main central striker to provide cover for Harry Kane and naturally the media are having a field day with rumours and speculation.

Players like Arkadiusz Milik, Haris Seferovic, Edinson Cavani, Bas Dost, William Jose, Andrea Belotti and even Jesse Lingard are among some of the names mentioned.

With so much rubbish floating around it pays to narrow your credible sources for info down to just a few, mine include Alasdair Gold, Fabrizio Romano, David Ornstein, Gianluca Di Marzio and Charlie Eccleshare.

The BBC, Sky Sports (UK, Italy and Germany) are also outlets that I tend to listen to more than most others. There are also some international publications like CalcioMercato that I glance over each day.

I check these chaps daily and as things stand right now, it seems to me that the general consensus is that Milik is the most likely option, albeit far from being nailed on.

A couple of days ago Romano tweeted this

Yesterday Goal.com tweeted this citing Sky Italy

And just today CalcioMercato are reporting that talks have progressed between Tottenham representatives and Milik’s representatives.

There is still every chance that another striker could end up at the Tottenham stadium but as things stand at the time of writing this, it is Milik that is looking the most likely signing.

Neither Son nor Lucas can play up top, tried and tested… Bale could probably do it.. you’re right though man we are desperate for another target man.

Some people seem to think that because Son scores goals we don’t need a another striker. Wrong. Son scores goals for sure but he is NOT a target man. What is a target man? A striker who is strong and bullish enough to be able to hold off defenders, hold up the ball and allow play to catch up with him. Ideally he should also be good in the air for crosses and dead ball situations.
What Son is good at is roughly the opposite, he’s a fast breakaway striker who is also good at destroying high lines with his pace (as evidence v Saints). He is good around the box and near Kane, also on the flanks cutting in. But he is not good at holding the ball up whilst waiting for other players to join up with him, nor does he have good heading ability.
Perhaps you can see why Mou wasn’t prepared to accept Levy’s usual nonsense of “you’ve got Son he scores goals so we don’t need anybody else unless they’re very cheap or free”. It’s vital Kane can be replaced with like for like, even if not as good.

There are so many strikers in the world, we have to sign one ffs…… If money is now an issue there is still quality for cheaper.. For example Richmond Boakye from Red star belgrade for 2-5 million.. He’s 27, cheap, has ability, has goals in him…

In other news, Wet Spam’s Dave Sullivan admits to being depressed as each day without a new signing goes by or another option disappears. KUMB in melt-down over lack of signings and poor results as the P*rn Barons plead poverty..Covid results the only positives to come out of the Spammers start to the season. Pretty good time to be a Spurs fan I say.

Odsonne Edouarde of Celtic is another whose name is in the frame. Its a bigger frame now than at the start of the window.

I’m concerned that Milik might prove to be Ratsak 2.0. Spurs really need a Wout right now. Chris Wood not a bad shout as a target man either but his hammies might be his undoing. If Diallo can play across the forward line it would be help him get more game time. But if we want an out and out target man as Plan B or C then Weghorst fits the bill.

Habib Diallo or Chris Wood for mine (Come on us Kiwis). Milik is too injury prone it seems. Seferovic, not prolific enough. Bas Dost, agents special. William Jose, last seasons Leandro. Cavani & Belotti never going to happen. Lingard, WTF!
