Latest: Spurs are set to ‘hold talks’ with club today regarding fantastic double signing that will solve two key issues

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their efforts to sign players during the upcoming transfer window, with the club set to hold talks with Sporting over both Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards today.

Spurs have not won a league game since the league resumed after the World Cup, drawing 2-2 with Brentford and then losing 2-0 to Aston Villa. They are now five points behind the top four.

And the Villa defeat seems to have brought some urgency to sign a couple of players this month.

According to the report, Spurs are to ‘hold talks with Sporting Lisbon’ today to sign Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards.

But the report claims that the Portuguese club has so far been reluctant to entertain any talks unless the players’ release clauses are triggered. Porro is said to have a £40million clause while Edwards’ reportedly has a £52m clause, but Spurs hold a 50% sell-on clause for the attacker which would lower the price considerably for him.

Spurs’ attack has been weakened by the injuries to Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, with only Harry Kane and Son Heung-min remaining as first-choice options. Edwards would be a fantastic addition to the team.

Meanwhile, Porro is the player that must be a high priority for Conte since the right side of the wing-back position is the area that really needs to upgrade.

The Daily Star had earlier reported that the club are ‘close to completing a deal’ with Sporting for the full-back.

Porro has been fantastic for the Portuguese team this year, assisting ten goals and scoring two himself.
