Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is reportedly leaning towards a move to Tottenham Hotspur over Chelsea, according to the latest report by the Daily Mail.
Raya’s contract with Brentford is set to expire in 2024, and he has been strongly linked with a transfer to Spurs, who are in search of a long-term replacement for their current goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris.
Lloris has endured a challenging season, making several unforced errors that directly led to goals. Additionally, the Frenchman has suffered two long-term injuries within a few months.
After an injury sustained against Manchester City in early February, he was sidelined until April. Unfortunately, Lloris picked up another injury during Spurs’ 6-1 defeat to Newcastle, which will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
Speculation has been rife that this may be Lloris’ final season at the club, with a potential sale during the summer transfer window. As a result, Tottenham have been linked with various goalkeepers to replace the experienced Frenchman, including Brentford’s David Raya.
According to the report, Brentford are demanding £40 million for the Spanish shot-stopper, who has played a pivotal role in their squad since their Championship promotion push. However, Tottenham currently values Raya at £20 million due to his one-year remaining contract, providing room for negotiations.
While Chelsea also holds an admiration for Raya, the player himself reportedly favors a move to Spurs.
Meanwhile, Lloris, who has been a loyal servant to Tottenham, is contemplating a transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. Reports suggest that Al-Hilal have made the French goalkeeper a lucrative offer that would triple his current salary.
