Tottenham Hotspur seems to be closing in on the signing of AS Roma attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti Spurs and the Roma attacker, who withdrew from their match against Spezia on Sunday, have reached a personal agreement.

And as per the latest reports, Spurs have already agreed on a transfer fee with the Zaniolo, with the only thing remaining now is the ‘structure of the deal‘  and both clubs are now negotiating the specifics of an obligation to buy clause.

However, there could be a potential twist in the tale as Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are now said to be entering the race for Zaniolo.

According to Italian outlet CMW, Paris Saint-Germain is considering a “bizarre” proposal to use Georginio Wijnaldum, a player currently on loan at AS Roma, as leverage to bring Zaniolo to the French capital.

This move would put Paris Saint-Germain in a strong position to outbid Tottenham for the player, given their resources and reputation as a top team.

This would be a significant setback for Tottenham, which has struggled both on and off the field in January.

Recent team performances have been below par, and they have been relatively passive in the transfer market. It would be a serious setback for the team and the club’s morale if Paris Saint-Germain were to acquire their top target.

Tottenham have been after Zaniolo since last summer and is said to be a player hugely admired by Antonio Conte. If Spurs lose him now after being on the brink of signing him, it would be a huge blow for the North London club who are in dire need of a creative attacking midfielder.
