Kane Should Leave Tottenham Sooner Than Later Says Jamie Carragher

By Joe Fish -

Harry Kane might find it difficult to get a big move away from Tottenham the longer he stays at the club, according to Jamie Carragher.

The striker recently admitted during an Instagram Live interview with Jamie Redknapp that he would consider leaving Spurs if he feels the club are not able to fulfil his ambition of winning major trophies.

The instinct among most fans is that the 26-year-old might give Jose Mourinho a full season to put us in that position, but Carragher has warned Kane about the dangers of waiting around at Spurs for too long.

The former Liverpool defender, turned leading pundit, wrote in his Telegraph column that Kane’s potential suitors, such as Manchester United, might be deterred from paying big money for him if he has another season at Spurs, especially as the Coronavirus crisis means it is unclear when that season will be played.

“Kane turns 27 in July,” Carragher said in his Telegraph column. “We have no idea when the next transfer window will open or next season start. If Kane does not leave soon, the situation gets trickier for him.

“When players hit 28, psychologically it makes a big difference to clubs. They see him as nearer 30, recognise there is no resale value and balk at high valuations.

“Manchester United’s need for a top-class No.9 is urgent and they might see Kane as the ideal fit, but they will apply the same logic if the fee is upwards of £150 million.”

I never thought I’d be siding with a man encouraging Kane to leave Spurs, but our recent decline has made it almost inevitable that will happen.

While I would be angered, although not in Kane’s direction, to see him go, part of me thinks we’d be smart to sell him while his value is at its peak, and realistically that is probably at the next opportunity that we get.

Mid table? Relegation battle more like. This
sorry situation is all down to small minded ownership. Kane should be winning trophies at Spurs. Spurs should be fulfilling their potential. Instead several top players have left to fulfil theirs. Under Burkinshaw was last sustained success , but a centre half & ball winning midfielder would have brought a league title. But no, we wont buy them. Why? Venners had us on verge & Sugar sacked him , & so began the buying of 2nd raters like Sinton & Fox etc. Sugar then ENIC. Spend on top players only , either proven or shrewd judgement. IE Vieria. We are like Brad Pitt going out with Bella Emberg. A complete waste of what should be a massive trophy winning outfit

We definitely haven’t made Kane feel we are building for a sustained push for trophies over the last 3 years, so it does not shock me to hear the beginning of the end. Levy has to be held accountable for allowing this to happen as he didn’t back Poch and he won’t back Jose unless we sell Kane. Whether Levy has learned anything from the Bale transfer remains to be seen. There is an opportunity to get 3 top draw players with any funds generated from selling Kane, plus the amount Levy would have for Summer transfers should get us at least two more. If used correctly it should lead to another cycle of us on the up. I don’t want to sell Kane, but what else could we do?
