Journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that Tottenham summer signing Ivan Perisic has had an “underwhelming” season.
Antonio Conte signed the experienced Croatian on a free transfer at the start of the season. The Italian manager worked with him during their time together at Inter Milan and he was a key member of the team that won multiple trophies in Italy.
Perisic has made 39 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions this season, scoring one goal and providing 11 assists. He has been known for his impressive performances wherever he has been played on the pitch, showcasing his experience and quality as a squad member.
However, Taylor believes his first season at Spurs has been underwhelming. Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said:
“I feel like there’s all sorts of different contributing factors. Conte did like to rotate as well; he also liked Ben Davies, which prevented him [Perisic] from playing regularly. Davies, in the early part of the season, was playing at wing-back. I know he dropped into the back three at the end, but it has been underwhelming; I feel like Tottenham fans will feel the same on that. They expected more from Perisic, he was a great signing at the time on a free transfer, but it just hasn’t worked out.”
With Conte now gone, Perisic’s future at Tottenham has become uncertain. Reports are now suggesting that he could be eyeing a return to Italy, with a potential move back to Inter Milan.
Inter Live has suggested that Spurs could use him to make a swap deal with Inter for to sign their long time target Stefan de Vrij.
This potential deal could also be a great opportunity for Spurs to address their center-back problem.
