According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the negotiation for the renewal of Antonio Conte “has stalled“.
He told Sky Sports (via TuttoJuve) that the feeling around Tottenham is that the Italian is not going to renew the contract and that the relationship between the club and the manager will end up in a “divorce” at the end of the season.
He further added that it is too early to say where the Italian will go next but a return to Juventus can not be ruled out.
Meanwhile Spurs have been linked with a move for former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri as a replacement for the Italian.
It has been reported by Calciomercatoweb that the North London club has identified Lazio manager as a possible replacement and that it is a “very plausible scenario”.
Sarri is under contract with the Italian club until 2025 but the report claims that a summer move from the Premier League side could tempt him to a return to England.
Spurs fans will be disappointed considering Antonio Conte has made substantial progress with the club since taking over last year. He guided them to a top finish.
This season they are still in contention to finish top 4 as well as in the Champions League Round of 16 and FA Cup.
Considering his track record of delivering trophies at every club he has managed Spurs fans would have hoped that he would have stayed at the club for at least another year to help them end their trophy drought.
However, if they get Sarri, they would still be getting a top manager with a good track record and an attractive style of football compared to Conte’s passive style.
