Journalist claims Tottenham is the closest to landing Napoli forward whose contract expires in June

By Eddie Razo -

Lorenzo Insigne will see his contract run out in June. Afterward, the 30-year-old can depart on a free transfer and join any club if he cannot reach a deal with Napoli.

Journalist Fabio Santini appeared on Il Processo (via Sport Witness) reports Tottenham Hotspur is leading the race to sign Insigne.

“The closest team to Lorenzo Insigne is Tottenham. Their executive, Fabio Paratici, is courting him closely,” Santini said.

“Aurelio De Laurentiis is not bothered, quite the contrary. The patron believes the English one could be the right solution because Il Magnifico would leave Italy and, consequently, would not join a rival Serie A club.”

Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici and manager Antonio Conte have had a front-row view of what the forward brings to a squad. As a result, Santini shares that the Tottenham club chief is doing his best to court the UEFA Euro winner.

“Antonio Conte is crazy about Lorenzo Insigne and would like the player as early as January… Lorenzo Insigne, of course, is flattered by the interest of both Conte and Tottenham, but he is undecided,” Santini said.

This season, Insigne has made 18 appearances for the Serie A club scoring five goals and six assists. The winger has only known Napoli, aside from loan stints, the Italy international has spent over a decade with the club, so it will be odd to see him elsewhere.

It will be interesting to see whether age plays a factor as Tottenham does seem to go for younger players for this project, but perhaps they can’t pass up adding a player of Insigne’s talent to the squad to show Harry Kane and Son Heung-min that they want to win now.

I think there’s still a letter from Rivaldo hanging on the chairman’s wall.

Would love him here, my doubt would be this is a World Cup year coming up.

Would Insigne take a chance on a new country/language /league /culture in those circumstances?

I see Alasdair Gold is saying Tottenham won’t spend very much in January.

I tend to believe him in this as he generally goes pretty easy on the owners.

Looks like we will shortly have an answer to that age old question can a leopard change it’s spots.

Unless we can change the perception of joining a ship that reads ‘Death of Ambition,’ it’s safe to say he will be going elsewhere for his last big move. Big transfer window coming up. Not holding my breath though.

What was that press release saying that we were only going for younger players? I guess that is forgotten about if Levy can get a player cheap! Personally I wouldn’t say no to Insigne, class player.

Naples are pushing for CL in fact I have just seen they are 4 pts off of Inter.
Let’s hope he hasn’t watched any ECL games.
