Journalist claims Kompany could sign star striker with 121 Premier League goals if he gets the Spurs job

By Mehdi Gokal -

Belgian journalist Filip Joos has made a bold claim that if Vincent Kompany becomes the next Tottenham manager, he will aim to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku as a replacement for Harry Kane.

Kompany, currently the Burnley manager, has impressed in his first full season with the Clarets, guiding them to promotion to the Premier League and transforming their style of play.

Tottenham are reportedly interested in the 37-year-old, with chairman Daniel Levy impressed with his work at Burnley. Joos believes that if Kompany takes the reins at Spurs, he will target Lukaku as a replacement for Kane.

Speaking to Voetbal Primeur, Joos said:

“It (a move to Tottenham) would mean that Kompany would have to let Harry Kane go to get Lukaku. Those are big shoes to fill. I might not dare to do it, but I also think it could work.”

Kane’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain, with Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and now PSG all reportedly interested in the England striker.

If Kane were to leave, Lukaku would certainly be a top-class replacement, having scored 121 Premier League goals for West Brom, Everton, Manchester United and Chelsea combined.

Joos also suggested that Tottenham could face competition for Lukaku’s signature, with Juventus a possible destination for the Belgian. “Juventus is mentioned and if they get rid of Vlahovic, there will be enough money to get Lukaku,” he said.

Kompany has been tipped for a bright future in management and could be the man to take Tottenham forward if he is appointed as their next manager.
