Jose Mourinho urged to allow Tottenham man to join Celtic

By Bruce Grove -

Alex McLeish has urged Jose Mourinho to allow Ryan Sessegnon to make a move to Celtic on-loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old is expected to see little to no football in the coming season after Spurs landed the likes of Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale.

There is a good possibility that he will be allowed to leave Spurs on-loan to a team that he will see more regular action with.

Celtic is one of the sides that have attempted to land him on loan for the rest of the season.

However, the Hoops are struggling to agree on a fee with the Lilywhites who are looking to allow him to leave for £5 million in fees and wages.

Celtic boss, Neil Lennon, has reportedly assured the former Fulham teenager that he will play a key role for the team that is chasing their 10th consecutive Scottish league crown, and McLeish has urged Spurs to allow him to join them.

“Premier League clubs could probably throw money at it but Celtic are obviously watching the budget,” McLeish told Football Insider.

“It’s been very tough for many, many clubs across the world, certainly in smaller leagues where the funding’s not as high as the Premier League.

“I would like to think it’s not just a money thing for Spurs, I would like to think the backroom staff or Jose can see the benefits of that, Jose and his backroom staff can see that this is a benefit for him to go out and play at a team that’s expected to go and win every week.

“It raises the stakes in terms of Sessegnon’s attitude but the league is not as testing as the Premier League.”
