Jan Vertonghen Poised To Leave Spurs By Mutual Consent If Top QC Is Right

By The Boy -

One of the many elements of confusion during this wretched COVID-19 pandemic is the business of players with expiring contracts. These can be challenging enough issues even when football is running its normal course.

Nick De Marco QC has told Sky Sports that technically, players will be able to simply say, “so long” when their existing deals expire, however, given the *ahem* avaricious nature of some players, it is more likely that some class of interim deal might be thrashed out, in order to keep the pennies trickling in. This convenient solution clearly flies in the face of the recent FIFA suggestion that existing deals simply roll-over until the season is either completed or ended.

For senior players though, the situation could be a tad more complex, given that many of them may not be looking for extensions. Old-timers such as Jan Vertonghen (who current deal expires this summer) are more likely to thinking of swansong seasons in less combative divisions, overseas.

Given the looming financial crisis at Tottenham, one might imagine that Daniel Levy won’t seek to thwart anyone seeking to leave the wage bill.

Agree . i just cant see how ownership will change sadly ,they will not sell in current climate even if they were ever thinking of it. Sadly we are stuck with these parasites for a long time and their constant excuses for not improving the one thing i care about THE TEAM.

Just like Lloris and Toby past his use and sell by date. Great player…. careers over in the PL. Time to move on.

I hope that somebody is composing a song for Levy to let him know what Spurs fans think of him.

Been a very good player and if he leaves will be remembered .
When ever this is all over our club paying any serious money for any players is going to look so bad due to their recent actions.
Perfect for Levy .
Is there any good news in the club i choose to support at the age of 6 or something? i really cant think of any……

Jan probably looking for a two or three year deal which he won’t get from Levy. Transfer activity might be limited as players prefer to stick to what now look like very generous inflated contracts, and as clubs seek to cut their wage bills. Uk employment laws take precedence over any Fifa rulings.
