Tottenham Hotspur signed Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich on loan during the January transfer window.
The 19-year-old completed the move to the North London club on deadline day and former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has now expressed concerns about his potential impact.
The former Tottenham midfielder is unsure of his quality and it will be interesting to see if the French attacker can prove him wrong. O’Hara feels that have Spurs signed players with potential, but they need ready-made stars who can make an instant impact.
Speaking on talkSPORT, O’Hara said: “Here’s my take on the transfers. Mathys Tel could be a good player, we don’t know, he was backup at Bayern Munich.
“We signed Danso, who we hijacked from Wolves because Dragusin has got injured until the end of the season, he’s out, so we needed a centre-half. Do I know anything about him? No. I’d be lying If I knew anything about him. Is he a top player? We don’t know. Again, you’re buying potential to be a good player.
“I think we’re covering up the cracks a little bit the Mathy Tel signing. We don’t even know if he’ll be a success.”
Tel is highly rated across Europe and he has a bright future ahead of himself. He is versatile enough to operate in multiple attacking roles and he is expected to add goals and creativity to the side. Tottenham have an option to buy him permanently at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see if Tel can impress over the next few months and convince the London club to sign him permanently in the summer.
Tottenham were in desperate need of attacking reinforcements, and they will hope that the 19-year-old can make an instant impact in the Premier League. It remains to be seen whether he can adapt to English football quickly.
