Jamie O’Hara claims one Man City player doesn’t get in this Tottenham team

By Mehdi Gokal -

Jamie O’Hara does not believe Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips will start for Tottenham.

Kalvin Phillips joined Manchester City from Leeds United last summer for £42m on a 6 year deal but the move has not worked out for him so far.

He failed to establish himself as a first-team regular last year and has fallen down the pecking order further with the arrival of Kovacic and Matheus Nunes. Rodrigo and even young Rico Lewis are preferred ahead of him.

He is now reportedly looking to leave and January move away could be possible with the likes of Newcastle and Everton plotting a move for him in January while Arsenal and Liverpool are also keeping a close eye on him.

Tottenham are among the clubs linked with an interest in the City midfielder.

But Jamie O’Hara insists that he would not start for this Tottenham Hotspur team. He told TalkSport:

“He is getting absolutely pied, isn’t he?! He has got to go.”

“If you are getting left out for an 18-year-old, and a winger, then a centre-half comes on in midfield in front of you as well, then you might as well pack yourself off.

“You aren’t going to play. If I am him then I am knocking on the door and say ‘Pep, just pay me up’.

“Where does he go? What football club would take him? He doesn’t get into Tottenham’s team. What team does he get in? He has to start. If he is leaving Man City, then he has to play week in and week out.”

Tottenham are currently flying in the Premier League with the midfield trio of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison putting in solid performances week in week out.

But Spurs lack the depth in the midfield with Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp the only other options for Ange Postecoglou, both have not been able to impress the Australian.

Spurs were linked with a move for Conor Gallagher in the summer but failed to agree a deal with Chelsea.

Whether Spurs make a move for Phillips remains to be seen but it is also worth keeping in consideration whether the player will pick Spurs or not.

He will be looking for a club where he is guaranteed regular game time which at this time may not be Spurs.
