“It’s really tough on the manager” This is what is holding Tottenham back claims former manager

By Bruce Grove -

Former Scotland manager, Alex McLeish has suggested that Tottenham might have a problem with their confidence as the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli continue to struggle.

Kane and Son Heung-min were the top attacking talents in the Premier League last season, but they have looked out of sort in most games this season, especially Kane.

Spurs have also struggled to create enough chances for their attackers to score and McLeish suggests they could be struggling with their confidence.

He told Football Insider: “I think there’s definitely a confidence crisis there.

“Nuno went into Wolves with fantastic support behind him in terms of being able to change the whole setup. They were bringing in some really good, technical players.

“That’s not happened for him at Tottenham. That’s what I think would hold Spurs back a wee bit. It’s not really changed from last season.

“You’ve still got the magnificent duo upfront but they need a constant supply. You can see signs of them trying to find their own supply. That means them not being in the dangerous areas of the pitch.

“That’s tough for Spurs fans at the moment and it’s really tough on the manager.”

Kane didn’t want to be at Tottenham in this campaign, but he has always delivered when he wears the Tottenham shirt.

It is baffling that he is still struggling. However, as McLeish points out, creativity has been an issue for the club. If we don’t fix that, Kane will continue underperforming.

With Son badly in need of support, it is hard to see Tottenham achieve its targets for this campaign if things don’t change.

But there is still time left for the team to hit top form and we can only hope the players click on the pitch soon and start delivering.

Nuno Espirito has been under a lot of pressure recently and rightly so. If he cannot get the best from our current players, he probably has to go because the current Tottenham squad is not that bad.
