“It’s just speculation” Player dismisses talks about Spurs exit

By Mehdi Gokal -

Japhet Tanganga who has been linked with a move away from Tottenham all summer has dismissed any such reports calling them nothing but ‘speculations’.

Spurs’ academy-graduated defender has come close to becoming a regular starter for Tottenham on a number of occasions but has been unlucky with injuries. Since the arrival of Antonio Conte, Tanganga started nine out of his first 16 games before suffering a knee injury.

This summer he has been linked with a move abroad with the likes of Napoli and AC Milan said to be interested in him. He has also been linked with a move to the newly-promoted Bournemouth with reports suggesting he would rather move to another Premier League club.

However, Japher Tanganga while speaking to football.london has dismissed all of such reports claiming they are just speculations: He said:

“It’s just speculation, and I don’t read too much into speculation. My focus is I’m just happy to be back, being injury-free and helping the team as much as I can and be ready when I’m called upon.”

“It’s about being ready. There was a period when Cristian Romero was injured and the manager called upon me to play in that position. I’m just grateful to play as many games as possible and I’m just happy to play whenever the manager wants me to.”

Regardless of whether he stays or goes, you’ve got to respect the determination and will to fight for his spot, despite knowing he might not get a lot of games under Conte.

Regretfully , Tanganga was like many before him , the spark did not remain , the adrenalin -fuelled first few matches and then very little followed . I understand he has had injury problems but possibly a new club might help the lad . It is looking difficult for him right now .

I like Tanganga as a person. Its also nice to have players who have come through the academy. However, he isn’t good enough to be more than a squad player and won’t get any better sitting on the bench. He’s already 23. How does he compare to Ledley or even Judas at the same age?
