“It’s all in place” Tottenham need just two new signings to push for the title claims former boss

By Bruce Grove -

One reason why Tottenham made Jose Mourinho their manager was that they wanted to start winning trophies.

After years of underachievement, reaching the last Champions League final was a clear sign of progress and showed that Spurs are close to winning major trophies again.

They have had a crack at the title in some of the past few seasons and their fans may feel that it is about time for them to lift the Premier League.

Former Spurs boss, Harry Redknapp believes that Tottenham has quality players in their side which makes them a team that can challenge for the title, however, he claimed that they would need to make one or two new additions to the side to complete the team and then set about winning the title.

The 73-year-old said per Talksport: “Dele Alli, I love him, I think he’s top drawer. Him and Harry Kane up front, they’re full of quality, aren’t they?

“Son is an amazing player. So you’d expect them to push on, the stadium is unbelievable and the training ground is fantastic, so it’s all in place.

“They just need one or two good acquisitions to the team. Push the boat out, it’s not like they’re short of money.

“Joe Lewis is one of the richest men in the world and I’m sure that, if he wants to have a crack at it, then there’s no reason why they shouldn’t bring one or two top players in and try for the Premier League title.”

Jose Mourinho has won three Premier League titles already, and he does seem to be fortunate and win at least a trophy in his second season at any club he has managed.

Tottenham will have to back the Portuguese boss with new top-quality players that he needs if the club is to have a proper crack at the title once again but with Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis pulling the purse strings, that may not be so easy to achieve..

That would get us back to where we were before with pochs team. Walker and rose and dembele….. I think we need more strength in depth. More quality to bring on from bench when players do get injured.

I would keep some first team starters like winks, sissoko, davies, aurier, dier, but demoting/keeping them for squad players/subs/replacements.. Ndombele and gedson fernandes would be going.. I would be including the young english like taph and skipp or they might as well be loaned or sold if not good enough….. I love lamela man but its probably time for him to limp on too. If verts wants out then he needs replacing.. Rose and tintin the great pain are still yet to be replaced.. I would want to upgrade half the squad plus 2 or 3 world class players to compete with the likes of scouse, city and madrid…. I would keep kane, son, dele and probably sanchez at all costs, and for now lloris, toby and lucas.. The rest are expendable for me….. Thing is homegrown players come into play too. We seem to be running out of english we used to have loads like mason, walker, rose, trips.. In an ideal world i would target english players. Makes sense kane being england captain. They cost more though.

I’d be interested to see Dier have a crack at CB for a full season. Trouble is he’s not quick enough to partner Toby. RB we need desperately- I’m hoping for Meunier on a free. Defensive mid could well be Hoijberg, who I’d welcome with open arms!

That’s the point, Nelson and Zaha were two signings Arry wanted but as usual not the ones he wanted, just the only the ones Levy got.

And the bit about Joe Lewis is just a dig if you ask me, he’s worked there and knows what they’re about. He’s right though, why doesn’t Lewis do that?

As an old man Jack Walker wanted to see Blackburn win the title as a dream fulfilled. Lewis seems more concerned about being the oldest billionaire on the planet, great, just leave it to the dogs home instead…

ENIC OUT.

I think could be possible with 3 for first team rb and lb and cdm although this is reliant on toby picking up form!

Harry’s been on the sauce. 2 players indeed, hopefully better than the quality of Nelson and Saha! We need a back up striker who can score goals, a defensive midfielder, a centre half and two full backs. We need to offload the mediocrity (too much to get in to now). Our problem in the last decade is we have had a strong First XI and we have been stretched when we needed options. Why would Joe Lewis start spending now?

Yep its more like 4 or 5 for the starting eleven, and another 5 squad players with enough quality to step in.. Our strength in depth shows after a few injuries.. Hence why we are 8th.. We need a full transition.

Nice of Harry to say that but I think we’re more than two players short of a title winning team, if they were two stellar players we’d be challenging but still short. Our bench needs strengthening too for the physical demands of a long season and the inevitable injuries.
