‘It’s a shame…’ but Darren Lewis tips Spurs star to join a specific Premier League club this summer

By Mehdi Gokal -

The Daily Mirror’s journalist Darren Lewis has predicted that Harry Winks will be an Everton player before the transfer window shuts.

Winks is one of the nine players expected to leave the club this summer as Spurs plan on raising money from sales before making more signings. Fabrizio Romano had also confirmed that the Englishman is one of the players that is definitely going to leave the club this summer.

A host of clubs have reportedly expressed their interest in the midfielder including Everton, Southampton, Leeds United, Cyrstal Palance, and Leicester City.

Despite recent claims by The Athletic suggesting Everton has ‘backed-off’ from their interest in the Spurs star, Darren Lewis has boldly suggested that the midfielder is Everton bound. He told Last Word on Spurs YouTube Channel:

“I think Winks will go to Everton. I remember covering Conte’s Chelsea side, and they had a lot of quality, but they were also very physical as well.

“And I think if you look at the midfielders [Spurs] have, they all have that about them. And perhaps, he [Conte] doesn’t think that Winks has got that. It’s a shame, but I think he’ll move him on. And I think Everton will sign him.”

Hugo was right to do that, because by that time Levy’s meddling had led to a toxic dressing room…

Players from the academy that set foot in the first team dressing room, let alone win England caps will always be feted by Levy. Winks has been ‘groomed’ from the age of about 14, he doesn’t know anything else…

my words read that Winks has never looked a winner and yet Perry man and Parker who played very much the midfield style of Winks absolutely looked the part – and are Spurs thru and thru

Levy time innit? Oh my sides! The master of the transfer window, the steely eyed negotiator, a real wheeler dealer…lulz.

So, speculation. “I think…”. Gary down the pub thinks Everton don’t need another mediocre midfielder, they’re well stocked with mediocrity, and Dele has put them off taking any more Spurs castoffs.

Indeed, however I generally never blame the players for these situations. Even with Wobblybelly, it’s not his fault the club failed to do their due diligence on him. If he’s a waster we should have known that, if players need to be sold to raise funds that lies squarely with the club.

I don’t personally like it when fans get so angry with players in these situations and brand them a ‘problem’ because they’re no longer needed or deemed not good enough. Our beef should always be with the boardroom and the owners. I wish Winks well…

Scott Parker wasn’t as bad as people make out, he declined while at Spurs because as usual we mainly sign ‘proven’ players at the wrong end of their careers…

He’s never been the same since he had that bad injury a couple of years ago. In the right team and system that suits him I still see him as a Premiership player. Certainly good enough for teams outside the top 6-7.

I find it strange that the 4 names who were left out of the tour (aka no future at Spurs) are all still here. Lets hope say in 2 weeks all 4 are rehomed.

How can you compare him to Perryman who is a Spurs legend?

I agree James , his form at the start of his career was very promising.
Unfortunately his game has not progressed since and probably now is as good as he’s gonna get .
Very much in the Steve Perryman , Scottie Parker envelope , he has never looked a ‘winner ‘ , never had that hunger that set them apart and maybe injuries slowed his march for glory but I think he should look lower down , possibly the Championship – think he’d be great in Scotland …………..

You would wonder what all these clubs see in Winks that Tottenham don’t. Wish it had worked out better for Harry but he hadn’t kicked on after a promising start, maybe injuries set him back, good luck to him if he moves.
