‘It’s a lack of experience’ Ferdinand slams Tanganga but questions why no one calmed him down

By Bruce Grove -

Rio Ferdinand has slammed Japhet Tanganga for allowing a rush of blood to cause him to make two rash challenges that got him sent off against Crystal Palace yesterday.

The Tottenham youngster has become a mainstay in Nuno Espirito Santo’s team in this campaign.

He started the game against the Eagles as Tottenham looked to maintain their 100% start to the new season.

Patrick Vieira’s Palace was always going to be tricky opponents and the former Arsenal midfielder set his team up to cause an upset in the match.

With the game still finely poised at 0-0, Tanganga got two yellow cards for fouls on Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew and he was sent off.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand says it was a rush of blood moment for him and he needed his teammates to calm him down before he received his second yellow card.

He told BT Sport as quoted by The Daily Mail: ‘I was looking after the melee to see if someone got hold of Tanganga. When the game starts again you need someone to calm him down.

‘It’s a lack of experience and rush of blood. He’ll get over it but it cost them today.’

I like Japhet and I know he’s lacking a lot of Premier League experience but he’s twenty two.

Contrast his behaviour with Kyle Walker who never flinched when a Polish player grabbed his throat during the England game midweek.

Most of us would have thrown a punch but Walker knew it was a windup to get him sent off and acted like a true seasoned pro who put his team first.

Live and learn Japhet.

He’s a professional footballer not a child. Does he really need someone to calm him down?
