Former Sunderland man, Kevin Phillips, has expressed concerns over Antonio Conte’s training sessions.
The Italian is famous for making sure his players work very hard to achieve their team’s goal.
He inherited a Tottenham team that was struggling for form and most of its players were working below their capacities.
Conte has already started making them work harder than they did under Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, the more intense their training session is, the higher the risk of the players getting injured and this worries Phillips.
He likes Conte joining his players in some drills, but worries over potential injuries because of the intensity of Tottenham’s training.
“I love it when the manager joins in with the drills,” he told Football Insider.
“As a player, it is great.
“But, by all accounts the training has been very intense since Conte has come in. It worries me how intense Conte’s sessions have been.
“In my opinion, I think you should change it bit by bit. It can lead to problems if the training is too intense, especially at this stage of the season.
“The games comes thick and fast. The surfaces on the pitches change a bit, they become a bit heavier so there is an increased chance of injury.
“You need to be careful in training. They have to get the balance right.
“In terms on Conte joining in training though, the players will love it. It looks like the atmosphere and team spirit have changed already. Let’s hope that continues.”
The Boy Hotspur Says
Most Premier League teams are well-drilled and it is one way to remain competitive.
Clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have been among the best in England because of the intensity of their matches.
If our players aren’t fit enough for the games ahead, other clubs who are well-drilled would likely beat us, and that is something Conte wants to avoid.
Is Seeengon a French Sauage..
N’Dombele already has the hat…
Everyone trains like sprinters in football mate.. Even an 800m runner does mostly sprint work, thats the shortest ‘middle distance’ race there is…. In football you are sprinting in constant bursts.. Jogging and walking to get your breath in between.. Occasional long sprints if there’s quick end to end transitions.. Injuries happen in all semi or contact sports.
Our second string need SAS training.
Different physiques need different types of training. 60m sprinter would never train like an 800m runner. That how injuries happen in football with one size fits all.
Good, means we can sell him then.
That’s cos he hardly plays and when he does he gets sent off…
The injuries seemed to be mostly caused by the international games/training – maybe Phillips should look into that more instead of trying to blame Conte.
Jeez
Players coming back from Internationals injured or shattered and dear old KP is worried about getting the players who arent injured up to an unacceptable level of fitness.
I know he is saying ramp it up gradually but he needs to get them up to the correct level asap.
Post up those stats about – well every category – that will show them how shat they are.
Well done, Collie. I think I’ve now blocked you on every platform going.
Another Levy punt. Another failure.
Absolutely! They need to put in a little hard graft.
Still not very good though Sess..third season..trash..
On the plus side he’s been injury free for well over a fortnight…
*comment removed as Collie is patronizing bore*
Sessengon looks overweight. 🤔
Tosh! This bunch of misfits have been cruising along for too long and looking at the statistics around yards covered by players they rank near the bottom of the EPL. At this level of the game on their salaries, they should all be in peak condition by now. That should be a basic requirement(are you listening Ndombele?) That may help them avoid injuries and last a full 90 mins.
