Is ‘Rudiger To Spurs’ a truly legitimate transfer rumour?

By Joe Fish -

Chelsea plan to begin contract negotiations with Antonio Rudiger to kill off any potential interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Daily Mail.

The centre-back will enter the final two years of his contract this summer and the Daily Mail understands Chelsea want to keep him despite an injury-hit season which has limited him to only 45 minutes of first-team action.

Rudiger started 33 of Chelsea’s Premier League games last campaign and may be the ideal long-term partner for England prospect Fikayo Tomori.

Spurs have their own contract concerns in defence with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen free agents at the end of this season, so the Blues are reportedly wary of possibly opening the door for us, as well as Manchester City, whose lack of depth has been exposed by Aymeric Laporte’s injury.

The Daily Mail adds that Chelsea believe tying Rudiger to an extended deal would force any potential suitors to look elsewhere for defensive solutions.

Opinion: I highly doubt the German international would have been considered a realistic target by Spurs, but at least we are giving Chelsea something to worry about, because our performances on the pitch certainly aren’t.

Transfer nonsense rumour mill cranking up and window still a month and a half off. Seen us linked with Pellegrini and I nearly fell off my chair. Turns out it’s not Spammers manager, some Italian, now Dries Mertens is on his way, and Rudiger as well. Distraction tactics, feed the mob with buns to keep them happy.

They’re finding out you can’t win the BIG on on the cheap. You can sneak a little premier League that way though they think (Leicester)

Complete nonsense, Enic spin, like most of our transfer rumours. Chelsea will never sell to us. The same with the Depay rumour. Enic think by leaking these absurd transfer rumours, that it will placate the fans. The reality is Spurs fans are slowly waking up to the fact that Spurs are no longer a football club but a cash machine for Enic who have no interest in winning trophies or respecting the club’s fan base, only to rip them off.

I like the opinion bit at the end. No value in simply covering an article written somewhere else. I agree, I doubt we looking at him and I doubt he would come to us.
