Insider Tip: Another Leeds Lad On Tottenham’s Radar

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham Hotspur will “no doubt” be scouting Leeds United’s loan star Ben White in their search for defensive reinforcements.

That is according to Paul Robinson, who of course has strong connections at Elland Road as well as at Spurs where he spent four seasons as “England’s number one; England’s, England’s number one.”

Robinson told Football Insider that he fully expects White to be on Tottenham’s radar because he fits the profile of our typical signing.

The 22-year-old is on loan at Leeds from Brighton & Hove Albion, for whom he is yet to make a Premier League appearance. So Robinson’s only concern – would Jose Mourinho want somebody more established to potentially fill the void left by Toby Alderweireld and/or Jan Vertonghen?

“Depending on Vertonghen and Alderweireld, I wouldn’t mind seeing him strengthen at centre-back, somebody like Ben White at Leeds, somebody of that quality would be a great addition, Robinson told Football Insider.

“I’ve no doubt for one minute the Spurs scouts are looking at him because he stereotypically the type of player that Spurs want to sign – a young, talented player.

“Whether Mourinho wants that or whether he wants some ready-made, world-class star that we know, I think he needs to strengthen on the back four.”

I watched White for the first time in Leeds’ win over Huddersfield Town this past Saturday, in which he actually played as a holding midfielder. He did have a certain presence about him that is difficult to quantify.

Somebody at Liverpool seems to agree as Football Insider reported in October that the Reds view White as a “potential superstar”.

And Liverpool’s recruitment team haven’t got much wrong lately.
