Tottenham Hotspur are said to be among the ‘frontrunners’ in the race to sign Inter Milan midfielder Stefan de Vrij, and they could sign him in January.
Spurs have been long linked with the centre-back and a move would make sense as the player and Conte know each other really well from their time together at Inter Milan.
De Vrij has established himself as a consistent performer for Inter Milan and the Netherlands, but his future is uncertain as his contract expires in 2023.
According to the latest Football Insider report, Tottenham Hotspur, along with Atletico Madrid, are the ‘frontrunners’ to sign the defender.
The report claims that the player is ‘increasingly likely’ to leave the Italian club in 2023.
Fabrizio Romano has previously confirmed that Spur will be in the market for another centre-back in the January transfer window and the Netherlands international would ‘fit the bill for Conte’ with the manager having already ‘spoken to the player’ about a January move.
The report from Insider also claims that Inter have told the de Vrij that a new deal will be offered to him but such talks have started as yet which has further increased the speculation surrounding his future.
De Vrij was previously valued at £40 million, but he will be available at a ‘knockdown price’ in January, according to Football Insider.
The report further adds that Conte is a “huge admirer” of the Dutchman, and he may persuade Tottenham’s hierarchy to pursue him in January rather than wait for a free transfer next summer.
