Insider: Daniel Levy’s refusal to sign two players Conte desperately wanted lead-up to the outburst

By Mehdi Gokal -

In a shocking revelation by Football Insider, the reasons behind Antonio Conte’s explosive rant on Saturday were due to the Tottenham Hotspur owners’ refusal to sign Romelu Lukaku and Stefan De Vrij, two players the Italian coach desperately wanted.

Daniel Levy made it clear to the Italian that the “club would not sanction” a deal for the pair this year which reportedly “contributed to the anger” that led to the outburst after the Southampton game.

According to the report, Levy made it clear to Conte that the club would not sanction a deal for the two players this year, much to the Italian’s frustration. The reason for this refusal, as per the report, is that the club wants to sign younger players with the “potential to be developed,” while Conte wanted “proven stars” with a winning mentality to help the club challenge for titles.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the club are now “seriously considering” sacking him, and Ryan Mason will be put in charge as interim manager for the remaining season. The club will then appoint a replacement in the summer to start fresh.

Conte’s outburst has rocked the club, with players reportedly wanting him gone. The Italian coach launched a brutal attack on his players, accusing them of being “selfish” and weak-minded who can not take pressure. He also aimed a jibe at the owners, suggesting that they lack ambition and that they have not won anything in 20 years.

His meltdown has brought to light the deep-rooted issues within the club. Tottenham Hotspur has struggled to challenge for titles for a while now, and it seems like the club’s owners have different priorities from the coach. This mismatch in priorities could be what led to Conte’s frustration and outburst.
