‘Initial contacts between the parties’ as Tottenham consider loan with right to buy option for 24-yr-old

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan are hoping to sign the defender this summer and it remains to be seen whether they can secure an agreement with the Premier League club. There have only been ‘initial contacts between the parties’.

The 24-year-old defender struggled for regular game time at Tottenham last season. He played just 146 minutes in the Premier League and he needs to play more often in order to continue his development.

Tanganga was regarded as one of the best young defenders at the club when he broke into the first team seen under former manager Jose Mourinho.

The 24-year-old is versatile enough to operate as the central defender as well as a full-back. He was expected to establish himself as a key player for Tottenham, but things have simply not gone according to plan for him.

Tanganga finds himself on the fringes of the first team and he needs to get his career back on track with regular football. If Inter Milan can promise him ample game time next season, a move to the Italian club could be ideal for him.

There is no doubt that the 24-year-old has the attributes to develop into a quality defender and a move to Italy could help unlock his potential.

Tottenham have recently signed the likes of Micky van de Ven and Ashley Phillips. Tanganga has fallen further down the pecking order and the north London outfit are likely to be open to selling him for the right price.
