‘Incredible coach’ with ‘high energy’ recommended to the Tottenham Board by former Spur

Tottenham Hotspur continues the hunt for a quality replacement for Antonio Conte.

The 53-year-old Italian manager was sacked recently and Cristian Stellini has been put in charge of the first team on an interim basis. Despite the managerial change, Tottenham continue to put in disappointing performances and Champions League qualification is clearly at stake now.

Missing out on a top-four finish would be a devastating blow to Tottenham financially, and they will struggle to convince top players to join the club as well.

Former Tottenham manager, Tim Sherwood has now suggested that Tottenham should look at the Brighton and Hove Albion manager, Roberto de Zerbi.

The 43-year-old has done a remarkable job at Brighton since replacing Graham Potter and Brighton are currently pushing for European qualification. Apart from their success in terms of league standing, Brighton have impressed one and all with their high-intensity attacking football.

Sherwood believes that De Zerbi could prove to be a quality acquisition for clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham, who are looking to bring in a new manager.

“I would have locked the gates at the Bridge there and not let him (De Zerbi) leave until he has agreed to join Chelsea as manager next season,” said Sherwood (h/t HITC).

“Tottenham are looking for a manager. They could do a lot worse than go for this man. He is the real deal. He plays with high energy. He keeps the ball. He controls it, like Potter’s Brighton did, but he penetrates all the time.

“He shines them all in the correct light and it’s an incredible job he is doing. Certainly my second favourite team in the Premier League.”

Tottenham have been linked with managers like Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino as well. It will be interesting to see if they are willing to make a move for the Italian at the end of the season.

The opportunity to join a club like Tottenham could be an attractive proposition for De Zerbi. The Italian has shown his quality in the Premier League with Brighton and he could be open to taking the next step in his career.
