“I’m surprised” – Former goalkeeper hopes Hugo Lloris can extend with Spurs

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will have his contract expire in June, and as of now, no extension has been agreed upon by the two parties. Furthermore, any club can approach the 35-year-old and reach a pre-contract for next season.

Manager Antonio Conte has remained confident that both sides will reach an extension. Former goalkeeper Paddy Kenny also hopes that Lloris continues his tenure with the north London club and explains what type of deal it will take to reach an agreement.

“It’s not like he’s in and out of the team; he’s the number one. He plays every week in the Premier League,” Kenny said to Football Insider. “I’m surprised something hasn’t been agreed already. If he goes, they will have to spend big to replace him.”

“Either that or give one of the best keepers in the league a new two or three-year deal. It doesn’t make sense to me, it would if he wasn’t playing. He’s one of their best and most consistent players. The fans want this done, so I expect there will be news in the next week or so.”

This past summer, Tottenham did bring in Pierluigi Gollini on a loan deal from Atalanta, but the 26-year-old hasn’t done much to take away Premier League starts from Lloris.

Furthermore, OGC Nice is rumored to want to bring back their former youth product. The French side is battling for a UEFA Champions League spot in Ligue 1, and should they clinch a place in Europe’s top competition, they’ll hope to entice the France international for a return to his home country.

Lloris cannot be approached by any team in the English league.

Lack of negotiations towards the end of a player’s contract are always left to the last minute with Levy,it’s what he does. With the window now wide open ,it wouldn’t surprise me if Levy was still swanning about on Lewis’ boat.
