First time in front of the THFC microphones for this season’s Spurs’ gaffer and beyond the club’s talisman, Harry Kane, it was inevitable that the journalists were going to want to know what had become of the extremely expensive Tanguy Ndombele.
Daniel Levy paid an eye-watering £63 million (admittedly there’s a fair whack of bonuses in there that will never be triggered) for the Frenchman, and he hasn’t worked out.
This summer the former Lille midfielder returned from a loan spell with Napoli in Serie A. This sees the 26-year-old as a championship winner, but his contributions whilst in Italy were negligible, and his typical minutes played only went over the hour mark on a dozen or so occasions. Napoli was said to have offered just €20 million for Tanguy’s services, which speaks volumes.
It’s clear that Postecoglou doesn’t know what he’s going to get (if very much at all) from this player, even after hosting his recent training sessions.
Fan reaction to a video taken of Tanguy arriving at Hotspur Way wasn’t particularly favourable, it has to be said, and it was watched by approaching 5,000 fans.
HH says: This is a subject everyone has covered endlessly, and we are well beyond the point of mumbling about there being a ‘great player’ in there, and it is time to cut ties. Let someone else enjoy this much-anticipated magical moment where Ndombele provides consistent value for money. I wish Tanguy well, but there’s something that simply doesn’t work here, and that isn’t a missing ingredient that is specific to Tottenham.
