I’ll Be Dancing In The Street When The Spoiled Kid Leaves Tottenham

By The Boy -

I’m guessing that Dele Alli has never watched the Godfather. It’s referred to in the film ‘You’ve Got Mail’ repeatedly, by Tom Hanks, which I’d hazard he may well have watched.

It’s a recurring theme, primarily because Hanks’ character continually refers to scenes and dialogue from the film in order to find guidance and seek advice, in his own life and eventually in Meg Ryan’s.

José Mourinho’s decision to drop Dele was a long time coming, to anyone that either understood the non-negotiable standards that the Portuguese brings to his clubs, and to anyone that watched the All or Nothing documentary, and then worked out when those scenes were filmed.

Any player that cannot be bothered to train, has no future under one of the world’s greatest living coaches, it’s that simple. I found this performance, completely lacking in authenticity, and quite rightly Eric Dier pulled Dele for it. Calling Dele a spoiled kid was entirely the right thing to do. In fact, it underlines the fact that Mourinho, who is STILL the only Manchester United coach to have won trophies since Sir Alex retired, wanted to buy Dier, and NOT Dele, who Ferguson recommended.

Dele Alli doesn’t need a break, or a run in the team to get his form back, Dele Alli needs a seismic change in the way his view the job that pays him. Until then, he’ll never amount to anything.

Too true, but if we were to buy Lingaard it would be time to throw in the towel. No point taking two steps forward and then buying him. He and Dele did well in their early careers, but I can’t help but think they wasted a massive opportunity by doing ‘extra-curricular’ things when football was their main priority. I liked Dele, he was a breath of fresh air. He was arrogant and didn’t care what people thought. That changed after a couple of years. He was stifled somewhat by Poch, who moved him back when he was good as that number 10. In the end there were too many touches, flicks and nutmegs for me. Grown up footballers don’t really behave like that, Neymar/Messi/Ronaldo are exceptions. Dele isn’t at their level though. He does have his best years ahead of him, but that doesn’t mean he will play his best football. His mate Dier called him a spoilt kid, time his attitude reflected a serious footballer.

Fair points, Looking at stats it’s hard to manipulate goals & assists there facts ,other things like tackles, recoveries, possession are easier. The PL is one of the hardest & best and Dele has the figures to show over not one season but several even scoring 50 league goals quicker than Lampard. If like replacing Aurier and Davies with Doherty & Reguilon then I am okay if we bring in a top midfielder with form and stats to replace Dele, but too many people jumping on the Dele this Dele that bandwagon and not realising that Jesse Lingard might just be the player brought in,and that would ruin some of the good work that this window has heralded. We will miss the goals & assists that Dele & Eriksen provided without them being properly replaced. He is only 24 and his best years are ahead of him.Son has played in the front three more times than Dele.

Dele’s stats hold up very well, but stats can be manipulated to make you believe anything. I would look at his stats as a central striker more than a midfielder. When he did play in midfield he largely went missing. Gerrard was similar to him for a few seasons, playing off Torres. Both were strikers more than a Scholes, deeper lying midfielder that is for sure. For overall impact I would have Gerrard, in fact only a Dele cultist wouldn’t. Gerrard won games and trophies on his own. Dele was part of a good team who has an obvious talent, it would be unfair to state otherwise and denigrate his contributions. However, when Son and Kane were injured last season, Dele wasn’t able to step up and be that player that would drag a team to a victory. Was it too early for him to do that? Will he ever be able to do this? Taking that step from Good to Outstanding is difficult. Dele has unfortunately overstayed his welcome, whereby his performances have dipped. I think Dele does want to perform, he just hasn’t been able to. He does need a new challenge though, it seems pretty obvious Jose has shown him the door. As for comparisons to Son, Son plays in a wider position. Dele was central, therefore he has greater opportunities to score/assist. If I had to pick a Spurs team from this century, Son would stand a far greater chance of making it than Dele.

Sonny’s 4 goals yesterday just puts his contribution of goals and assists ahead of Dele although he has played 5 games more in the Premier league (Dele PL p157 goals 50 assists. 33) total G&A =83 ( Son PL p162 goals 57 assists 29 ) total G&A =86

Absolutely spot on, but I suspect he’ll sulk and engineer a move, which is a shame as I’d much rather see him grow up and knuckle down. I expect he will move to a mid-table team with a manager that will indulge him and pretend to be happy.

I can’t make my mind up on this one.
I read the comments on both sides and see merit in all of them.
Problem is he has had his “JM Warning” and hasnt heeded it so will probably not end well.

Now we’re being conditioned to regard him as a less worthy squad member than the likes of Lucas, Lamela, Sessegnon or Bergwyn.

He has to want to get back to the sort of form he showed 2-3 seasons ago. This public criticism and the ignomy of being left out of the squad should be the catalyst.
We know there is a player in there so perhaps a 12 season long loan to a good side in Europe could be the way to go.
If after that there is no improvement in form and attitude then by all means sell.He will only have himself to blame.
We definitely don’t want or need Lingard.

8th March 2020 Dele Alli has now reached 50 Premier League goals faster than Hazard ,Scholes,Lampard, and Gerrard. Won’t peak for another 3/4 years.

8th March 2020 Not 4/5 seasons ago Dele Alli has now reached ( 50 Premier League goals ) faster than (Hazard ,Scholes,Lampard, and Gerrard). Won’t peak for another 3/4 years. The other record he broke might have been more goals & assists in 50 PL & 100 PL games, than the other midfielders mentioned.

Van Gal won an FA cup but it doesnt detract from the fact that Utd were idiots to sack jose just to suit pogba.

Hopefully Dele sorts himself out rather than sulk off. But i think he isnt as bright as i had previously given him credit for however he is a 15+ goal a season midfielder so i would like to see him sort it out for us.

Buzzing for the Orient game now.

Spurssss are on there way to wembley, Jose’s gonna do it again

Just sell him and take the cash. We don’t have to replace him exactly. Put the money toward a CB.

As José told him, “I am 56. Yesterday I was 20.”

The lad’s too daft to listen.

That Lampard/Gerrard reference was made about 4/5 seasons ago.

He’s peaked.

I’m not wishing for Lingard, or I would have said so.

You’re foisting an outcome on me that I HAVEN’T wished for – which is strange.

Don’t expect any regrets if he is replaced by a far lesser player.

Dele was being derided even at the height of his powers for surpassing the goalscoring feats of the Lampards, Gerrards, Beckhams and Co at the same age. There would have been dancing in the street had he been sold at the very peak of his potential.

He’s been an idle showpony for far too long. For a guy with no pace and brittle looking legs he has to work hard in other areas. But he doesn’t. 90% of the time he is getting caught with the ball and losing it or just tapping an easy pass to the nearest teammate. He has no real invention and/or killer pass so he is just making up the numbers. His game has been rumbled and I would love to see the back of him in return for somebody who actually contributed something other than poncing around and flashy flicks that never work. He can’t tackle due to his lack of physicality so he’s not much use to a hardworking tight team.

The phrase” be careful what you wish for springs to mind” for the last week or so everyday we have to listen to The Dele this,Dele that saga unfolding.Well I hope you’re happy and still dancing in the street if Dele gets sold and replaced with a right Jesse,Lingard. Dele in the PL has played 157 games, scoring 50 goals and 33 assists and is only 24 years old. Jesse in the PL has played 133 games. scoring 18 goals and 10 assists and is 27 years old. Dele G&A 83 Jesse G&A 28.Man Utd fans are ecstatic about a swap deal plus money for Dele, getting rid of Lingard into the bargain.

Dele will grow up one day and regret his attitude. Funny how he jumped through hoops under the previous manager but not for Mou though isn’t it? I don’t recall Pochettino calling Dele lazy. Perhaps the novelty for playing for a big team that never wins anything has worn off. Ironically with the arrival of Bale and Reg that trophy drought might just be coming to an end, providing we can be good in games for more than 45 minutes and stop giving the opposition a head start every time, and actually achieve some CONSISTENCY..

Yep, he’s been on my list of “sell” for awhile..although so was Lamela and I think he may be worth keeping if Jose likes him as a sub…

For years I never understood Mourinho and the way he would single out certain players for praise, only to bombast them a week later but I do now. And as far as the above goes? I couldn’t agree more. Dele Alli has something that most of us would dream of. A god given talent and a place in the starting 11 at Spurs (At least he will have if he knuckles down to the hard work). If you cannot appreciate the position you are in you don’t deserve to be there. Talent will only get you so far in life, the rest comes from hard graft.
