Yaya Toure has said that he would be delighted to return to Tottenham one day.
Toure recently announced his departure from his coaching role at Tottenham to join Standard Liege as their assistant manager.
In an interview with the PA news agency, Toure expressed his gratitude towards Tottenham for the opportunity they provided him to develop as a coach.
He acknowledged the incredible support he received from the club and stated that he would never be able to thank them enough.
Toure joined Tottenham last season while working on his coaching badges and was eventually named as their academy coach.
Prior to his stint at Tottenham, he gained coaching experience at Ukrainian side Olimpik Donetsk and Russian team Akhmat Grozny.
While Toure’s departure from Tottenham was expected, as his position at the club was seen as a stepping stone for his managerial career progression, he remains appreciative of the opportunity he had with the North London club.
He said (via Evening Standard):
“If the opportunity to go back was there, then why not? Because what Tottenham did for me was incredible, they allowed me to work there and develop as a coach and for what they did for me I will never be able to thank them enough.”
After joining Manchester City from Barcelona in 2010, he went on to make over 300 appearances, scoring 79 goals and 49 assists.
Toure played a pivotal role in City’s achievements, winning three Premier League titles, two League Cups, the FA Cup, and the Community Shield.
Regarded as one of the Premier League’s finest midfielders, Toure has solidified his place among the league’s all-time greats.
His desire to potentially return to Tottenham in the future highlights the positive impression the club made on him and his ongoing connection to the team.
