“I’d take him” – Former Spurs player names the defender the club should sign this summer – he will cost £40m

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson has voiced his support for the signing of Harry Maguire from Manchester United.

Football Transfers had previously reported Tottenham’s interest in the English centre-back, with West Ham also registering their interest in him.

According to the report, Manchester United are eager to offload Maguire and would even consider a reduced price of £40 million for the player.

And now, Dawson has given his backing to the potential move, stating that he would sign the defender if he were in charge.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Dawson said:

“There will be a lot of takers for Harry Maguire. I’d take him at Spurs tomorrow.”

Maguire joined Manchester United in 2019 for a record fee of £80 million, making him the most expensive defender in the world.

However, his time at the club has been marked by disappointment, as he has struggled to live up to his price tag and expectations.

Under manager Erik ten Hag, Maguire has further fallen down the pecking order, with even Luke Shaw being preferred over him.

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to sign a couple of center-backs in the upcoming transfer window, with Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez likely to leave.

While the club was linked with top-class defenders under previous manager Antonio Conte, their current unstable situation and absence from the Champions League next season could make it challenging to attract high-profile players.

In this context, Maguire could be considered as a viable option, offering substantial Premier League experience to Spurs. Despite his struggles at Manchester United, his potential arrival could improve the team’s defense.
