“I think there’s a lot of positives here,” Hoddle says Conte will get the job done with this one important condition

By Bruce Grove -

Glenn Hoddle has tipped Antonio Conte to succeed at Tottenham as long as Spurs can give him the right support.

The Italian is one of the best managers in the world and he has enjoyed success at spells with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Each time, he had the support of his employers and, if that is the case at Tottenham, he has been tipped to achieve success.

Former Spurs’ star, Hoddle says Conte is experienced enough to know what he wants and tips the former Chelsea gaffer to demand the right signings from Daniel Levy.

If the Spurs executive gives him the player he wants, things would work smoothly.

The legendary Spurs midfielder told The Independent: “I think the appointment was as best as Daniel could have made at that time.

“Out of anyone out there, I don’t think you could have picked anyone better if Daniel’s attitude has slightly changed now. It must have changed from when he went for him in the summer.

“I think there’s a lot of positives here. He is somebody that knows what he wants from a team. He will demand that and he will demand money if it’s not working his way.

“I think they’re in a really strong position if Daniel knows the circumstances and Conte says, ‘Look, if it doesn’t work out with certain players, they’ve got to go. I’ll rebuild. And I’ve done it with other clubs and have been successful’.

“And I think Daniel’s got to buy into that now. If that’s the case, then yes, we’ve got the right jockey on the horse.”

The Boy Hotspur Says

In the last few seasons, Spurs have supported the likes of Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo with quality talent.

The club must have agreed to give Conte the same support before he took the job.

We now expect him to sign players that would complete his team after spending time with the current members of the squad.

The January transfer window might not see many players come to Spurs, but a summer spending spree is expected ahead of next season.

They’re running out of options if they want to avoid their involvement at Spurs being seen as anything other than a massive waste of the fan’s time…

I don’t feel that Jose was sacked because his best day are behind him, It was the performances in the end that suggested he’d lost the players’ faith. Even with Conte, if the performances aren’t at an acceptable level then even he could get the boot.

However I see your point, this time the spotlight will be shining purely on Levy now. It will be interesting, but Daniel has nobody to blame the failure on now. Probably for the first time ever.

I’m sure he’s far from comfortable with this,.,

The onus really is on DL now, more than it ever has been before.
With Poch you could always argue that he wasn’t quite an elite manager as he had never won anything. It’s a harsh argument but it dug Levy out of a hole when he sacked him.
With Jose you could argue that his best days are behind him. Again slightly harsh but again it was it was justification enough to sack him.
With Conte we are getting a manager at his peak. There is nowhere else for Levy to go on this one. If Conte doesn’t succeed, all fingers will be pointed at Levy.

I think the abuse and boos which ran out at the Man Utd game could be that light bulb moment (yes I know Danny boy normally has his blinkers on)

He had nowhere to turn and if he didn’t react, the atmosphere would have been ranked up so much, the staduim would have become so toxic.

Conte would not have come onboard unless he was given a free rein, he wasn’t in June so stuck his fingers up at it.

Definitely at last chance saloon for the ENIC boys, so in my eyes it’s a win win……either invest on the pitch or bugger off!!

The proof is in the pudding, will Levy back Conte? I still find it hard to believe he will. He and Lewis haven’t in 20 years, why would they start now? Mind you they are in the last chance saloon at the moment.

It all depends on the diminutive emperor changing his negative ways.
