Hugo Lloris opens up about the mind-games before Harry Kane’s crucial penalty miss

Hugo Lloris has reacted to club teammate Harry Kane’s crucial penalty miss against France that saw England get knocked out of the World Cup.

Tchouameni’s stunning strike gave France an early lead, but Kane equalised for England from the penalty spot immediately after the half. The goal saw him equal the record held by Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney for the most goals scored for England (53), but in 40 fewer games.

Late in the game, Giroud restored France’s lead, but England had another chance to equalise when Hernandes shoved Mason Mount down as he leaped for a header.

Harry Kane stood up to take the penalty again, but the pressure got to him and he blasted it into space, effectively ending England’s dream.

Hugo Lloris has now spoken about the missed penalty from his Spurs mate who he knows so very well. He explained the mind games that ultimately made him shoot it above the bar. He told the French Team’s Twitter account:

“The first one, we know each other so well, that I said to myself he’ll change.”

“But he stayed with his usual. And the second one I went the right way. Certainly he must have been feeling the pressure so he lifted it a bit, he forced it a bit. It was an important moment in the game.”

England were the better team over the 90 minutes but France made their chances count. They will now face Morocco in the semi-finals and the winner will face either Argentina or Croatia in the final.
