Spurs Created Quality Chances But Failed To Convert Enough Of Them |image

By The Boy -

As you can see from the infographic above, Liverpool peppered the Tottenham goal, compared to Spurs’ meagre by comparison, 8 attempts. The probability of scoring is shown by the size of the circle – the larger the circle, the better chance of a goal.

Liverpool sought to create twice as many chances, that weren’t of the same quality, yet their finishing was superior. Some fans may well start ruminating over Mourinho’s tactical style, which worked perfectly well against Manchester City and nullified Chelsea who were also favourites to beat us.

We’ve never seen Kane score from one either apart from the villa game years ago which you could argue took such a big deflection it could have been an own goal. It amazes me why he still steps up everytime

I think Bale could be the answer to that position of Bergy/Moura but Jose wants the defensive work to be done too. Bale would also take those free kicks and score one of those chances, we have to get him fit and playing imo.
That winning goal needs analysing again, what happened to Dier, and how did Firmino get that space after he nearly scored first half.

Yes to this. The Berg/Moura position has been a problem all season.

I get the fact that Bergwijn runs around a lot but his positive contributions are thin on the ground. He had two one on one chances at Anfield which is a rare commodity and yet again fluffed his lines. His goals and assists stats says it all. We have badly missed Lamela’s energy in midfield and we need a quality addition in that area. We seem to play just one of Lo Celso or Ndombele there with Kane as a no 10 behind Son. We struggle to transition the ball through midfield and lose possession far to easily. Liverpool had Curtis Jones and Wijnaldum lively and skillful winning the ball and distributing fast with accuracy. We lacked that quality. Sissoko appeared to be playing wide on the right in front of Aurier and they were pulled apart in the first half by Robertson and Mane getting wide and behind Aurier. Why no Ndombele? Is he unfit yet again? I no Bale was probably still not well enough but I think Bale needs a run of games. I would play him down the middle and with Reguilon wide on the left as they may play well together as a combo like Kane and Son . Bale needs to be around quality players to see if he can find his groove again. He has not figured in any of our big matches lately and he is a world class player that needs the big occasion. Defenders will fall deep just with his presence on the park.

Yes CzechSpur , The win against Leicester is vital for the Players Confidence. When we get to play Liverpool again we must be still in the running.

Second in the table having beaten City (and Arsenal) and having already gone to MU, Chelsea and Liverpool (all grounds where we usually lose) is not too bad. However, if we are really serious about staying near the top, we MUST beat the inconsistent Foxes next up.

After that in the league:
Wolves (A), Fulham (H), Leeds (H), Villa (A), Sheffield (A) before Liverpool (H) again

If we stay in touch with Pool, I believe we can beat them at home, but we should avoid dropping needless points to inferior sides like West Ham, Palace or Newcastle (or Everton for that matter)

You are far more forgiving than I am. If it had been anyone else than Kane missing the header he would have been metaphorically lynched.

We had 4 good chances against the champions on their ground and only scored one, from the most difficult chance.
Their first goal was a fluke.
Although overrun in the first half we contested much better in the second half, and as the xG stats show a draw was a more typical result, maybe 2-2.

Just a shame that best drilled goal scorer couldn’t head in from 6 yards. We didn’t lose the game because of the free kick that is for sure.

The Mou Anti-football is ok as long as we can grind out results. When we loose, with 24 possession and a team total of 75 successful passes, it’s just embarrassing. This looked like a cup match between a PL title contender and a League Two side.

Kane I can excuse. A one on one I cannot.

For England he has, which counts for nothing, but since Eriksen left Kane hasn’t scored has he? I genuinely don’t know.

The point is, we have one of the best drilled goal scorers in the world on the pitch in the dying seconds, with a chance to go 3 points clear at the top, and Dier takes it. If he’s whipping it in for Kane to get on the end of, then fine. But he goes for goal. Tell me how this makes any sence whatsoever?

Realistically we dropped 2 at Palace, and 1 at Anfield.

The defeat is hard to take especially with Bergwijn’s and Kane’s chances, but Liverpool pushed for the win and got it. Smash and grab is only good when you score. A ‘winning mentality’ is often mentioned and last night both Bergwijn and Kane blew it. Firminho who has scored 3 in 30ish stood up and showed why they are champions. I felt last night Spurs didn’t want to lose and Liverpool wanted to win. In context losing to Liverpool at Anfield is not a catastrophe, the dropped points v Palace, West Ham and Newcastle are not far off.

We move On . We must win against Leicester . Losing at Liverpool was bad , but the dropped points against Palace are worse to be honest .

when did Harry last score one. Dier had a great free kick last weekend which was a wonder save from the keeper, so plenty of reasons from him taking one

Kane’s header was the easiest chance. Both should have scored, it is that simple.

I think because Dier got his effort on target v Palace whilst Kane was having trouble hitting the stand had a lot to do with the decision. When was the last time Kane scored a free kick, I honestly don’t know but it seems an age.

Around 2 minutes to go in injury time at 1-1 with Kane on the pitch, and somebody….? thinks it’s a good idea to let Dire take a direct free kick from 20 yards. That could’ve been the match winner right there, if the free-kick-taker was someone capable of hitting a barn door, and not somebody who has trouble scoring a penalty.

I think after that performance everyone knows we are condenders.
Klopp will be relieved to get the win & so he should be.

He’s lucky Bergy had those 2 chances & not Son
