“His mind is made up” Pundit reckons a new manager won’t be enough for Kane to stay at Spurs

By Bruce Grove -

Former Sunderland striker, Kevin Phillips is confident that Harry Kane has made up his mind to leave Tottenham and nothing can stop him.

Kane has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League since he joined Tottenham and the Englishman is targeted by the world’s best clubs.

He has remained loyal to Spurs for the entirety of his career, but they have been unable to help him reach his goal of winning trophies.

The England captain has now asked to leave the club and he hopes they can agree to a deal to sell him this summer.

Tottenham is managerless and it has been suggested that their next coach could persuade Kane to remain with them for another season.

However, Phillips is convinced that Kane has thought about his decision and has made up his mind to leave so that he can win trophies with another club.

When asked by Football Insider if a manager could persuade Kane into staying, Phillips said: “In my honest opinion, no.

“I do not think Conte would have even been capable of keeping him. I’m not sure any manager can.

“His mind is made up. He wants to move on and he wants to win trophies.

“I cannot see Spurs winning trophies next season. Even if a manager of Conte’s calibre came in it would take at least year to get the players he wants and to get then playing how they want and it would be another season gone by for Kane.

“I know he loves the football club but I feel like his mind is made up now and he wants to go.”

It’s good games to do family ticket deals or local schools to go along. Would help with PR at the same time.

When Kane sees Levy next, he’s going to ask what’s the plan and when he’s told don’t be to ambitious, I think the gloves may come off and it could take a downward turn if he a move gets blocked.

Agree. One thing at a time. We still do not have a DOF and I read somewhere that this is the longest any team in the top 5 European leagues has been without a manager. Talk about slooooooooow. Levy is clearly unable to make decisions quickly and THFC keeps missing out with his ridiculous procrastinations. C,Palace and Wolves and Everton will all have managers before we do.

Every dog that has ever barked in the PL seems to have an opinion here on Kane. I wish that they would all shut up. It is bad enough when they are players you once respected but when they virtual nobodies, then and now, the noise is painful. Mind you if dear Daniel would get of his backside and actually do something quickly for once, who knows? We might actually have our squad complete BEFORE season start. Who am I kidding?

Why don’t you watch some of the youtube Spurs channels like We are Tottenham TV, Matt Hayes etc. All massive fans but also realistic about what is happening. You might learn something instead of being a very annoying little Levy drone all the time.

Remembering Baldini, would we spend this money well? Agreed this new DOF ought to be a huge improvement on him, but will he be his own man with the bald one lurking like a praying mantis!

Actually, that’s what I would use the lesser European competitions for: blooding some youth players and giving some fringe players a game. Poch should really have done that in 2016 and fully concentrated our efforts on the title. We were quite fortunate to scrape a draw at home to Leicester in the cup but, in the replay, they made something like ten changes, lost 2-0 and, as a result, were able to focus their efforts entirely on one game every Saturday afternoon, apart from the odd re-arranged game in midweek. This certainly would have assisted their title efforts. And the next season, Chelsea, without the distraction of Europe, won the title; we were second.

Don’t suppose the Conte climbdown has exactly enamoured Kane to want to stay. The lad deserves winners medals, he won’t get those at ENIC FC.

I would sell Toby, Son, Kane and Dele. Bury all the bad news at once. That should bring in well over 250 million for a genuine re-build and free up wages. If the time wasters like Sanchez, Winks, Lamela, Sissoko and Aurier are jogged on too that should bring in another 80 million. With that level of transfer kitty and freed up wages six or seven 50 mi££ion pound players could be brought in to help Hugo, Reguillon, Tanganga Hojbjerg, Skipp, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Stevie B, Sessegnon, Devine and Scarlett to establish themselves. It might not be as bad as we are thinking.

So you think there is a striker out there who can bring to this team what Harry did. Perhaps when santa is delivering the trophy he could throw in a top top quality striker too. My question would be what affect Harry leaving will have on Son. He has been very poor since Christmas. I think replacing Harry, the defence, the goalkeeper and sorting out the best midfield combination will take quite a manager never mind so brilliant players and the young guys are nowhere near that level yet. I hope levy tries to go the cheap way as always more egg coming his way.

Off thread, Tappa, referring to your reply re Glasgow Rangers that I’ve just noticed. Of course, they certainly wouldn’t be top three immediately. Hard to say, but I reckon they’re currently Crystal Palace standard, maybe, possibly Wolves, but even then they would have to get used to a tough match most weeks if they plied their football down here. Though they have had some quite good results in Europe under Gerrard, they still only reached last 16 of the Europa, which isn’t anything to crow about. But regarding fan base, I remember Souness, when taking over at Rangers in 1986, calling them the biggest club in GB after Man Utd. Personally, I’m a huge Celtic fan and we’re in a real mess at present with the team NOT English premiership standard; Gerrard’s got the league title in the bag each year now until he gets the Liverpool job, where we’ll get a better idea how good a manager he actually is.

With all of this constant uncertainty, and is he coming, is he going, over Conte, Poch and who knows who else, would ensure Kane is forced out. If we had quickly signed a first class coach and 3 or 4 winners, it could have changed his mind. But quality costs and Levy will not pay it

The attempt to keep Kane would be some such…

Kane: One sugar please….?

Potter: Errr, No H…Im Graham ….the new gaffer.
The chairman is sure after consulting the spread sheets that we could be confident of a conservative rebuild bringing a trophy perhaps by 2035, keep yaself fit and you never know??…plus the kicker position at the NFL franchise?…. its yours kid…

Kane: Get me Pep.

Potter: *in head…I should av stayed at Brighton…

The DOF model didn’t work too well last time, I seem to remember! It’s unlikely the Italian will be allowed to do his job properly by old baldy, who is restoring this modus operandi simply to deflect blame from where it should lie, namely at Levy’s door.

Couldn’t agree more with your sentiments. There’s just a sadness and acceptance now that I am, at 66 years old, most unlikely to celebrate a league title for Spurs in my lifetime (wasn’t a footie fan until 64-65) without very helpful circumstances (such as a rival club playing full time in Europe or being over extended by European commitments)

If I was Harry I’d be leaving as well. No one outside of Levy/Harry and co knows exactly what’s going on, but we’ve got a pretty good idea that the jam isn’t being delivered tomorrow, next week or even next year given the sorry state the club now appears to be in. I suspect we don’t even have a truck lined up to deliver the jam.

Unless someone comes in who has the ability to get the best players in the squad playing for each other I can only see really troubled times ahead. The window of opportunity to become an established member challenging for the title every year has sadly sailed away now, and I don’t see us getting back there, leastways not any time soon.

Levy and ENIC had a golden goose with every conceivable opportunity to make us something, but they decided to cash it out for the NFL stadium and a property portfolio. And now us, the fans, have to sit and watch this whole sorry debacle. I used to get mad at the missed opportunities that we all saw come and go, now I’m just bloody sad about it.

I’m not worried at all re next season bruva Bruce. I’m happy we’ve got a dof in for a start. We’ll get a manager in and some defenders. Shift some rot, good loan youts returning then we go again. I can’t see what all the fuss is about. The honeymoon period will get us through to the next window then we’ll re up again
